I agree the center part is tough for anyone to pull off, but I can relate to wanting a super simple hairstyle. It's just blown out and flat ironed. I would go nuts with a complicated style and lots of pins digging into my scalp all night.
My perfect Oscars outfit: Maya Rudolph's snuggie/caftan, Sandra's stick straight hair, Eva Marie Saint's sensible flat sandals. I would fit right in a Florida retirement community gala.

I like the dress. Her makeup seems heavy on contouring, which might draw attention to any filler she's put in.

Women of a certain age, with a more almond-shaped eye, are going to look like raccoons with that much black eyeliner. I thought it was unnecessarily aging.
Let this be a lesson to us all.

When she kept telling the lighting person over and over to bring down the lights so she would look like she's 39, I thought "I love you Sandra, but not with that eye makeup."

I loved her dress, but yeah, she looked very severe make-up wise.

It would be nicer if they weren't filled and pulled to all look 33.
Yes, there are a lot of beautiful 40- and 50- (and 60) year olds in Hollywood: Jennifer Aniston, Juliane Moore, Demi Moore, Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, etc., but truly none of them look older than a well-kept 40 y.o. Not that they don't all look too done, but none of them have the issues that I do as an anglo woman with a naturally aging 47-year-old face (and I've avoided sun all my life). So I know they're doing something, whether it's lymph drainage massage or fat transfers or virgin-blood-facials or whatever.
I caught her on the Oscar red carpet and close up, her face was startlingly wrong. Stiff and mask-like and just too much filler in the cheeks. She's got great cheekbones and maybe that's how you photograph well, but up close, I was like ew....
I wonder if she's recently had stuff done and it's still settling, which is why she did the lower the lights thing at the Oscars? The fact that we noticed it (and she's usually flawless) and the lights thing are kind of suspicious.

I think "lower the lights" was a joke, but not necessarily self-deprecating, because I think she thinks whatever she has had done looks good. She wears a ton of makeup, and I get it, sometimes you feel like you need some "armour", but she really overdoes it. It makes me wonder who are the assistants to these women, and I'm thinking particularly of Sandra and Nicole Kidman. I don't know what Nicole's had done to her face, and I don't really care. (Although it's surprising how, the older she gets, the more she is the spitting image of her late dad, high forehead and shiny skin.) But I do wonder who has been telling her all these years that the bleached blonde hair looks good on her. It does. not. Same with Sandra; sometimes she gets photographed out and about with little or no makeup, and she always looks good. And younger.

I thought it was a liiiiiitle convenient because some friends I was texting with saw her on the red carpet and thought she looked like she’d overdone it with the work on her face and I was all set up closely scrutinize her appearance on stage and they lowered the lights.....

She looks great in the Ocean's 8 trailer, but she has less makeup on. I think she's like Jessica Simpson and a few others to me...the less the better...they're super pretty with nothing on!
