Thinks having children is selfish. Hollywood actress SANDRA BULLOCK has slammed biological parents for "selfishly" bringing babies into the world when there are so many unwanted children waiting to be adopted. The SPEED star, 41, has refused to give into her biological urges because she fears too many babies are being born into unstable relationships, or to parents who are not selfless enough to care for them. She says, "There's the biological urge, but do people have to listen to it? What about adopting? "Too many people have children that shouldn't be having them. The children always, always suffer. Having a child is a selfish act." "There are so many unwanted children in the world that have no parents. I love children so much that I'm not going to damage them with my selfishness."

The mind boggles.
So she won't even adopt because she doesn't want to "taint" a child with her selfishness?? Then act your age, grow the fuck up and be responsible. If you, Dear Sandra haven't adopted then don't slam anyone else who doesn't either and don't hide behind the facade of being "selfish". Assmunch.

Good grief. I usually like Sandra, but sounds like she's a tad defensive about being 40 and childless. Get over it, sweetie.

I think she's got bigger issues than being 40 and sans spawn. In an interview I saw a snippet of, she said something like "now I'm in a really great relationship -- I never thought I deserved that before." Of course, after seeing the guy she's with, I have to wonder. He looks...icky. (I think I'd have issues about dating a guy who used to be with a porn star.) I find Matthew McConaghey (sp?) icky, too, so I guess Sandy and I don't have similar taste in men...
On one point, I agree with her -- there are lots of people out there who should not be procreating, but she really has no business making pronouncements about adoption vs. biology. That's a very personal choice.

Plus she's 40, childless, and in the middle of a career slide. That sequel to Miss Congeniality looks like utter crap, even for her. Seriously, I don't see how anybody can find that amusing.

Seriously. The sequel to Miss Congeniality will make Legally Blonde 2 look like Oscar-worthy material.

Not to poke at a hornet's nest, but I don't think she's using "selfish" in an insulting sense. All she's saying is that people have children because they want to have them -- like it or not, that's the definition of a selfish act. I keep horses but could be donating the money it takes to practice my hobby to people who need it. Keeping my horses is a selfish act, and I recognize it as such. Sandra is absolutely right to say that many, many people should be thinking twice before having kids -- biological OR adopted. Just because you have the ability doesn't mean it's necessarily a good idea. Off topic, I'm so, so happy that Moldy Tofu has made it possible for us FT'ers to reunite. Woohoo!

I get that. But it's such a dumbassedly obvious statement. That's like saying:
The sky is blue Michael Jackson is creepy Star J-R is a famewhore
Why even bother?
ETA: that my rudeness was directed at SB, not any posters. My bad. I would also pay money to hear a celeb utter one of those obvious statements. Although I'm pretty sure Paris Hilton has said "Oh check it - the sky is like, totally blue today".

My guess is that she's been asked one time too many when she's gonna have kids, a situation I know all too well. Of course, now that I've gone to the trouble of defending her, she's probably sitting at home right now going, "I fucking hate children ..." I would pay to see/hear a celebrity tell an interviewer, "SJR is a famewhore." Wouldn't that be fun? (ETA that it would either have to be the most unfamewhorey -- say, Paul Newman -- or the most famewhorey -- Paris Hilton, anyone? -- of celebrities for this to be funny.)

Wow. She does sound kinda pissed. I do agree with her that there are some people who shouldn't be having kids (or even pets for that matter). I wonder if she'll marry Jesse. She does seem very happy with him and in the pics I've seen with them she seems to be ecstatic to be in his company.
(OT I'm so happy my boss is away and I can spend the entire day posting here!)
