I must conclude that I am, in fact, a jellus hater. Who is doubtless interrogating the text from the wrong perspective. And projecting my own limitations upon it. Thereby straining Anne Rice's Dickensian principles to the max! (Still waiting to find out what the hell that means, btw.)
The ad at the top of my page is for Goth Singles. Heh.

I think it's very interesting you say that icy. I graduated from HS in '94, so I think all the hoopla of the book went over my head a bit. I recently read "You'll Never Eat Lunch in this Town Again" and I was a little confused as to why she made such a big deal out of getting IwtV made. Earlier in the book she just referred to it as the "vampire project," and I kept wondering if she was talking about The Lost Boys.

I've got an ad for Rod Serling's Night Gallery.
Jeez, I'd forgotten the whole Julian mess. The Witches of Mayfair books I actually like better than the vampire ones, but she ruined them by trying to make them into supernatural medical thrillers.

Okay, I'm re-reading the "Mayfair Witches" books again. I'm in the middle of the first, and I'm hoping to get through the next two without giving up in disgust when I get to "Taltos".
I truly loved this book-if only because of all of the history.
Wish me luck! (Oh, and doesn't she combine the vampires and witches later in "Blackwood" and "Blood Canticle" or whatever?)
I also have a confession to make: I think that Lestat was the ONLY role I actually liked Tom Cruise in. I also have a soft-spot for that movie, because I saw it on my first date. And Kirsten's and the other vampire chick's Victorian bustle dresses.
If I do buy these books, and I'd like to, I'm going to try and get them at Half-Price Books, or some used bookstore, so I'm not giving HER any of my hard earned cash.

Bumping this for a question about Lasher
Why does Rowan kill Emaleth? I still don't get it!

Well, aside from Rowan being bitch ass crazy (sorry, couldn't help it ) I thought she killed Emaleth because a)Emaleth was a Taltos and therefore a threat to humanity and b)any male Taltos would "overcome any obstacle" to get to Emaleth. Rowan had no sense at all by running off with Lasher (just a dumbass move all around. Hated her) and she didn't want to take any chances with other Taltos. Of course all of this went out of the window when they met Ashlar. And then Rowan fell in lurve with Lestat (you know, like ya do . I can't believe I remember some of this stuff. It's been years. Still think Witching Hour rocked, though. I'll see myself out... Edited for awkward wording (Anne's rubbing off on me, yo) and to say I have a Goth singles ad, too. Love this place...

Ah, good. I'm reading Lasher now, but yes, I started to read it years ago, and read the ending.
I'll wait and see what happens then.
(Oh, and couldn't they have made Mona just a YEAR older?)

Mona bugged. She's the world's most precocious, unbelievable Mary Sue. I have a kind attitude towards Anne Rice, but I think it's obvious she's never spent any significant amount of time with a 13-year-old girl.

That and her whole "I started having sex when I was EIGHT!" And the fact that she's a thirteen-year-old tramp, and dresses like a seven-year old? Making Michael look like a child-molestor?

Okay, I finished the series today, and quite frankly, I found Taltos to be the weakest. But it STILL bugs me that:
Rowan killed poor Emaleth-even though she just panicked and then regretted it. Poor, poor Emaleth.
