Does anyone else have this book by the editors of Ben is Dead Magazine.? This is my bible for all things from the '70s and '80s that I can't remember. It's like I Love the '70s/'80s in book form. I think it's out of print now, and my copy is thrashed, but I won't let anyone borrow it, ever--too risky.
Anyone else have love for this book? Also, anyone know anything about Darby or the other contributors? The girl named "Pleasant" was one of the people interviewed in the Go Go's Behind the Music.

This reminds me of The Encyclopedia of Bad Taste by pop-culture historians Jan and Michael Stern. It was published in the late eighties and detailed, in a snarky, pseudo-scholarly, all those things considered bad taste then (i.e., tatoos, enormous breasts, small dogs, bowling, formica, lava lamps, tiki drinks, facelifts, etc. ) The amusing thing is many of them are considered the height of trendiness now.

I just borrowed it from a library. It makes me wish I was alive back then.

I survived the '70s and '80's. It's my generation on "That 70's Show". Life wasn't all fun and chuckles.
We were the first generation to experience HIV/Aids, genital herpes were big (pardon the pun).
We worked damn hard to try and break the glass ceiling.
Flash forward 20+ years and its still the same, only Ronnie R's dead, Maggie Thatcher is still kicking, Brian Mulroney is still and a**, there is still a war in Afghanistan, prisons are still overcrowded, at least there hasn't been an Attica lately.
Sorry feeling a bit jaded and time warped...

I've got two copies on the Encyclopedia of Bad Taste, it's bible, baby! Especially the section on enormous breasts. I keep the picture of Chesty Morgan to frighten people.

nitenurse: I have an old issue of TIME from 1982 that talks about herpes. To think that a few years later people would be taking about something a lot worse.

Is the book the same thing as the zine? I have the orginal "Retro Hell" issue of the zine. Is it missing stuff that the book has?
