I enjoy the characters also, hope to know more about everyone's past soon. I want to know more about Dogger and of course the missing Harriet. The sister fighting gets a little annoying, why can't you kids get along?
For some reason our local library only has the last book so I'm having to borrow from others in the system before I read it.

I really like the actress who reads the Flavia deLuce audiobooks. I listened to the first one, and since then, I've stuck with the CDs. I'm looking forward to the next one, too.

I want to thank the person who mentioned in the other thread that they were reading the Bess Crawford series by Charles Todd (mother & son writing together. It's really good in the vein of the Maisie Dobbs series and it's set in the same period.

I love the Flavia de Luce series. So good to hear the next one is coming out early '14. I'm dying to know about Harriet!

Has anybody read Louise Penny's mysteries? I'm wondering if they are worth giving a try. Her latest book popped up as a recommendation when I was pre-ordering Tana French's upcoming book. There's nothing I love more than a really good mystery novel with a solid plot and intriguing characters, and would be really happy to find a new author. I recently discovered Josephine Tey--her books were recently reprinted--so at least for now I have a list of mysteries to look forward to:)

I haven't read Penny's books but the last two received very good reviews and they check out well at my library.

I read some of Penny's earlier books in the series. I stopped when everything seemed a little strained because of too many crimes happening in that small town. Some authors ignore that problem (like Agatha Christie with Miss Marple) but because Penny writes repeating characters who have a memory of events in previous books it became an issue. The books I read were well written and I remember vignettes and characters 10 years after reading them, so that's a recommendation.

I zipped through In a Dark Dark Wood, by Ruth Ware this past weekend (on the beach in Mexico /obnoxious). Reese Witherspoon has the cover blurb on the front of it, so I will assume she's in the inevitable movie, and she'll be perfect as one of the characters. It's about a bachelorette (or hen in the book) party, gone very, very wrong. And while it had some creaky, rather hoary tropes, it wasn't bad. I think this will be one where the movie actually improves on the book, depending on atmosphere and casting. But, like The Girl on the Train, I did figure out the twist beforehand. Maybe I'm getting better at that? Anyone try her other books?
