Always good advice. Sometimes the kitty wants to be left alone, and has a bit of a temper.

I love the Harry Bosch character as well. He's so smart and rumpled. I was into the Stone Barrington books (author is Stuart Woods) for a while, but they get a little tiring after a while. Stone is rich, good-looking and has absolutely no problem getting himself out of trouble and sleeping with anyone he wants. He's a little too slick.
Anyone else here read any Linda Barnes? I love her Carlotta Carlyle series. Carlotta's a six-foot tall redhead who drives a cab in Boston and lives in Cambridge. Since I grew up in Cambridge, I really love reading mysteries that take place here.

Carolinian--thanks for the recommendations. I'll check out that author. I read Twelve Sharp, the new Stephanie Plum book yesterday. It was a fun read but am I strange that I was a little disappointed that Ranger seemed totally humanlike and mortal in this book, rather than the usual superhero persona? Because I sort of was.

Holy shit. The new Plum book is finally out? Perfect timing. I have about 15 books from the library but can't seem to get motivated to start any of them. There are 286 people ahead of me for Twelve Sharp at the library so I think I will head on down to the book store to buy it. Please tell me there was lots of Lula and Grandma Mazur.

Just finished At Risk by Patricia Cornwell. Not enough "meh" in the world.

I read Cornwell's first and thought it lacked polish but was entertaining, so I read her second. It was the same plot as the first! I tried her third, got a couple of chapters in and abandonded it, which I almost never do. Her popularity baffles me.
I really love Tony Hillerman's books. I've never been out west and his writting gives me a great sense of the environment and the culture of the Navaho. However his last book, Skeleton Man greatly disappointed me... the plot and characters were weak and the descriptive passages perfunctory. Towards the end of the book I skipped a page and didn't notice it until several pages on. I wonder if age is catching up with Hillerman, and he isn't as sharp as he once was.
I don't know why but I thought the Stephanie Plum series were cozies, but it doesn't look like it. I'm off to the library!

Oh, there definitely was. Thanks for the info. I had fifteen free minutes before work this am so I started it already and damn if Lula didn't crack me up by page 3. Also thanks for sending me to the bookstore where I only planned on buying Twelve Sharp and instead walked out with 7 books. My Amex bill loves you lol.

I just finished Twelve Sharp and loved it. I was thrilled Stephanie's sister wasn't in it. She is the only character in the Plum universe I don't like.
Grandma, Lula and Sally were a blast as usual.

Last night I read a Molly Murphy mystery by Rhys Bowen, and I liked it. Not enough to go out and buy any of her books, but I'll definitely look for more in the library.
(twodollars, I always quickly skim through any parts of the Stephanie Plum books that have her sister or Albert Kloughn in them--I don't like them, either)
