Oy. I read this entire book last night -- it was a quick read -- and felt exhausted, disgusted and just plain tuckered out afterwards. Karrine Steffans seems to fancy herself a writer, but the sex scenes read like something out of bad historical fiction, and the repeated rationalizations got real old, real quick. On the one hand, I was horrified by the abuse she suffered, at the hands of her mother and then her boyfriend, and the rape she endured as a teenager. But she kept on making awful decisions and never seemed to question the behaviors that brought her so much misery. The level of self-delusion just kept getting higher and higher -- she was really into Fred Durst, people! One thing that stood out for me in the book is that the hip-hop industry is apparently run by absolute filth. Even the decent men in the book are unfaithful -- but then, when would Steffans meet a truly decent guy? In the strip clubs where she worked? On the set of a pimps-and-hos-style video? As she was passed around by members of Murder, Inc.? The quote that comes to mind is the only good line in Home Alone: "You are what the French call les pathetiques." What about you guys? Did anyone else read it?

This chick is dumb enough to be dating Bill Maher, and that says enough right there.

Yeah, she's mighty squinty. And so very, very clueless.

I read it and it was shit. She learned no lessons and still fucked around with Usher either while she was writing the book or around the time she got her book deal. So much of what she said was lies or extremely exaggerated. I just got more and more disgusted with her as time went on and she kept acting like every guy who she was with was a complete gentleman and treated her soo good and she was sooo in love..gag. This tramp would fuck and suck anyone that walked. I'm pretty sure that her thing with Bill Maher is over. You know she was just after the money. Am I the only one who laughed my ass off when she called all of her fuck buddies trying to get the 3k to keep her apartment and they all told her no? And then her ass still didn't get a job. As the book went on, I really started to hate her and her supposed reason for writing the book. Just admit you wanted the money and stop acting like you're trying to "save" young girls. She was on Hot 97 last summer while promoting the book, and it's worth a listen. Hot 97 interview Kool G Rap calls in and calls her a liar, and his wife has audio of phone calls from Karrine. The best part is when they say she told them that Poppa was Method Man and that she told them she had a daughter by him. Chick was scared. Method Man called in after she left. It's pretty entertaining. Did anyone have guesses as to who Poppa is? Part of me thinks she's lying. But...the other part of me thinks it's R. Kelly and the real reason she won't reveal his identity is because of his legal issues. Just the fact that she says she won't tell who it is because their relationship is so special that she doesn't want to taint it. Oh please. Homegirl admitted to blowing Fred Durst right after meeting him and being immediately discarded...chick has no shame. And um...I think the Home Alone quote is "les incompetant". (Home Alone nerd here)

I just wanted to shake her. "These men are not in love with you! They don't even consider you to be a person! You're a goddamn party favor to them!" She was/is just so pathetic. And she has essentially no job skills. She's only ever been a professional piece of ass -- she wasn't even a dancer in the videos (because that would take talent of some kind); she just showed up and wore her thong.
And the writing... shudder. Here's a bit from when she met Fred Durst:
You sad, pathetic, talentless skeeze.

You must check out her webpage, karrine.com. From her bio:
Sounds like someone's still a little peeved at not being invited to Susie Mackenzie's birthday party in sixth grade.
Ugh, Fred Durst. That's not the smell of power coming out of his pores, Karrine, it's the smell of pure skank. I think I need a shower now as well.

I was going to buy this book but now that I have seen these post, I will wait for the library. thought she was a video dancer but I guess that is not the case, what did she do if not dance? And Bill Maher? The guy from Politically Incorrect? That Maher? Really?
