I read the Secret Circle series many years ago. I remember liking them at the time, but it has been over 12 years since that time, and I remember bits & pieces.
I was into these type of stories. I read The Flowers in the Attic and Heaven series as well by VC Andrews about that time as well.

Oh, cool thread. I loved the Night World books. I think my favorite one was Secret Vampire, where the girl finds out she's going to die and then her best guy friend turns out to be a vampire and changes her into one to save her. And Daughters of Darkness, where the three vampire sisters run away and their brother comes looking for them and finds his soulmate in the human girl - Mary Lynette? I remember a surprising amount about these books, even though I haven't read them in ages.
Does anyone know if the last book in the series was published yet? I think there was some delay in publishing it years ago because L.J. Smith was ill, but I don't know what happened after that. I'd love to find out what happened with the Wild Powers and the apocalypse and all that.

Gosh quite aside from my hate of one and love of the other, even objectively i personally wouldn't classify Virgina Andrew type stories and LJ Smith as anywhere near the same type. For me they'd be about as similar as Ryan Seacrest and Jeremy Irons. What do you find similar about them?
My faves of NW were probably Huntress and Black Dawn. The first for that scene when Jez half unconscious starts remembering things in snatches and putting together that she's the wild power and then we have the sentence "And Jez let it free." Great writing there. Ditto for the scene in Black Dawn where Hellewise appears 'through' Aradia and both of them are commanding Sylvia to release whoever it was. Fave couple was prob Jez and Morgead. I loved Thea but hated the wishy washy guy she was paired with. i would have preferred her to be with someone like Ash (i also hated Mary Lynette who he was paired with).
As for Strange Fate yeh i know it was initially postponed due to illness and then family problems and then publishing problems. Frustratign thing it's apparently all been written but now wants tweaking because it was directed at the approaching millenium and now it's 7 years later. Shitty way to treat the fans though.

I can understand not liking the VC Andrews books (since anything that was not in the Heaven or Flower series was written by a ghost writter, and I consider to be a waste of read time).
I had to go look up some of her (LJ Smith) other books to refresh my memory. I read the Secret Circle series first and then came the Dark Visions series (about a group of psychic kids), and finally The Forbidden Game series.
By the time Night World books came out, I was just extremely busy with work at that time. I do own the books, but are on my shelf in my parents house, collecting dust.
I know she was sick and new releases were on hold. I never knew anything after that.

I always think about good old L.J. Smith when the last book of a series I'm reading comes out. Good Lord I want to know what happens in the last Night World book! I'm kind of hoping Mary Lynette bites it so Ash can hook up with someone more worthy of his hotness.
I re-read the Elena/Vampire books a couple of years ago and hated them. How many times do we have to hear how freaking great Elena is, huh?

I knew this name sounded familiar! I read the Forbidden Game series, years and years ago. I didn't know there were more.

I re-read the Elena/Vampire books a couple of years ago and hated them. How many times do we have to hear how freaking great Elena is, huh? She was pretty devoid of personality. I get that she was supposed to be pretty, but I don't remember there being much else to her. (I guess there didn't need to be? Whatever, LJ!) I read the Vampire Diaries, the Secret Circle and the Forbidden Games a long, loooooong time ago. I really loved them at the time. I'm scared to go back and read them now, though. What if they don't live up to the hype! Heh. I didn't know there were more. Forbidden Games had my favorite premise. Teenagers getting sucked into a board game? (I think that was before it happened in the 1,283 movies.) But I remember when I went back to read it a couple of years later, some of the characters really grated on my nerves. I never did finish reading it again.

I went out of my way this year to order not only the Vampire Diaries series on Amazon but I also got the Secret Circle series as well. I read these books when I was 13 and I had to have them again. I think out of the two, the Secret Circle with the witches is my favorite.
Diana. Faye with the golden eyes. Adam and Cassie. Anyone else read them?
