I loved this book; the epiloge was a little cheesy but I understand why Rowling wanted a neat little ending. I started bawling when Harry was on his way to Voldemort, surrounded by his mother, father, Sirius, Lupin. I suspected one or both of the twins would die, which sucks, but I was really glad it wasn't one of the trio. I was terribly afraid for Hermione in Malfoy's house.
All in all, a very satisfying ending to this series. I kinda expected there would be a few loose ends and there were, but not enough to ruin it for me.

Well, Christ, no one warned me this was going to be a freakin bloodbath. (Rubbing out Tonks and Lupin? Com-plete overkill.) Not that excited about the ending (I'm smelling cheesing mold on the epilogue but the kiddies need hope, I guess), but overall I liked it. I needed closure and got it.

Me too! That was the one time I cried during the book. Over the house-elf. Poor Dobby! I never liked Dobby too much, so I haven't the slightest clue why his death made me sob too. Oh god, me too! Dobby's death made my cry the most by far. I didn't even realize Lupin and Tonks had died--I thought the sentence about them in the Great Hall meant that Harry still didn't know where they were. When Lupin appeared with Harry's other parental figures on his way to face Voldemort, I thought, "well shit." So, one sentence about lying on the floor in the Great Hall < House Elf Funeral. Random thoughts, in no particular order: I was really afraid Bellatrix was going to kill Hermione, and even though I had thought Neville would finish her off, Molly Weasley yelling "THAT'S MY DAUGHTER BITCH!" is pretty effing amazing. I was surprised Harry ended up being the Horcrux, because I thought as I was reading that even if he HAD been one at some point, the basilisk venom would have done away with it when his arm was impaled in CoS. Oh well, guess not. I didn't have a problem with the way things unfolded--I didn't read it as Harry ever really having been dead, so I didn't have a problem with the "WTF HE CAME BACK TO LIFE!?" thing. Oh, I also cried when I read about all the people who turned up in the Room of Requirement to fight. OLIVER WOOD, YESSSS! And Fleur turned out all right in the end, and sort of made up for being the wussy Triwizard Champion. Dumbledore's mother shared a name with one of the Girls Next Door? How random. I loved his backstory, though, and whoever called Grindelwald making an appearance is awesome! My own pet theory about the Bloody Baron didn't pan out, but his story was still pretty cool. I wish there had been less time devoted the Trio running from one place to the next and more on the Ravenclaw Horcrux. It just felt like the destruction of the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff Horcruxes were shoehorned in between two big events (meeting Aberforth/discovering the passageway into the Room of Requirement) and the battle. The epilogue could have been much, much better, and I would have loved to have found out what happened to all the characters (which is why I've got my fingers crossed for the encyclopedia!) but I liked the little subtle detail that Malfoy did not, in fact, marry Pansy Parkinson--perhaps because she tried to give Harry up, and Malfoy had a life debt to Harry? Even though Malfoy did not redeem himself in some Snape-like fashion, I still liked the way his storyline played out. His family was capable of love just as much as Harry's was, and I thought it was great that Narcissa betrayed Voldemort just so she could get to Draco. But Rose and Hugo? I mean, I know that's supposed to equal Ron and Hermione, but "Hugo" makes me think of that new ginormous soda McDonald's is selling (completely unintentional, I'm sure). Snape's patronus was a doe? HA. HA HA. HAHAHAHA. Still don't like Snape, even though what he did was admirable. Hermione saved Lavender from Greyback! Percy came back! Nobody who had never done magic before ended up doing any. I wonder which two characters that were supposed to live ended up getting the axe, and who got saved? I think George may have been the one to die but was spared. I knew one or both would have to die, because the parallels between Gideon and Fabian were kind of obvious. As for who was supposed to live... maybe Tonks? And Colin? Everyone else's deaths seemed kind of essential to the plot, but maybe that was the point--JKR had to kill someone off to advance the plot in a way she hadn't foreseen?

I cannot believe I forgot how "YUSS!" I was at Oliver Wood's return. If they don't put him in the eventual movie, I shall pout very hard.

Me too, bee, me too. At the party I went to last night, there was a "write your own ending" wall, and I wrote "Oliver Wood comes back hotter than EVER!" Hell YES.
Oh Sean Biggerstaff, marry me please.

Mmm, Oliver Wood.
(Heh heh. Biggerstaff. Heh heh heh.)
Did anyone else crack up whenever Aberforth and goats were mentioned? I love the goats thing. So random.

The fact that Aberforth's patronus is a goat is even better than Snape's being a doe. Period.

Meh. After I finished this, I realized _why_ books four and one are my favorites--they take the time to develop the Wizarding World and let you soak in it. In contrast, DH was mostly nonstop action and plot. (And some of the WW stuff you do get exposed to is really unpleasant, like the Ministry of Magic scene.)

Well, Christ, no one warned me this was going to be a freakin bloodbath. Seriously, I did not expect Harry Potter to have a higher body count than the Sopranos finale! I can't believe she had the balls to kill Colin Creevey, of all people. I am a total wuss, I kind of cried when everyone came out to fight at the end. JKR did a GREAT job with the final battle - I got the same kind of goosebumpy feeling when all the various allies started showing up at the end of Lord of the Rings. The "Nineteen Years Later" bit was a little cheesy, but... kind of a welcome bit of cheese. Also, I totally loved Ron in this book.

Colin Creevy seems pretty minor to me, I was sort of hoping for a different Weasley to die. Like maybe Charlie or Percy, after the De-Earing I thought the twins were probably not going to really suffer anything else.
