Well I'm glad it is over, and didn't care for the wand nonsense at the end.
But I did get a little verklempt when Kreacher led the House Elf army.

Didn't J.K. Rowling say that someone would do magic who hadn't done magic before? I finished the book, but I don't remember reading who this was...did I just miss it?

I bawled my fucking eyes out about Dobby. Yes, I cried over a house-elf. And then to have Kreacher feel so proud about himself and lead the elf army in the end...man, that was too much for me...
I knew as soon as I read that Tonks had showed up and left the baby behind that she was going to die with Remus.
And yeah, who did magic late in life? I totally missed that.
Did anyone else love the cheesy goodness of Harry naming his youngest son Albus Severus Potter?
The whole Harry dies but doesn't thing bugged me. It was a little too tidy.

To me, the most important thing in the book was that Harry got to go back to Godric's Hallow and see where he came from, with the baby pictures and all that...I don't know, that part made me teary a little.
I also enjoyed how it wrapped all into how its your choices that define you-from Dumbledore's choice to not become Minister because he was scared of himself, to Snape's choice to stay on the side of the woman he loved, to Ron's choice to come back to his friends.
I also didn't mind the epilogue because to me it simply said "Everything turned out ok, Hogwarts is back to normal, Harry has the family he never did." Although on the Childfree LJ community they're complaining that it was too "breeder"-which I disagree with because a good deal of what I loved about the book was how Harry wanted the family he never had and that was part of his relationships with everyone. So of course he had kids.

Me too! That was the one time I cried during the book. Over the house-elf. Poor Dobby!

My book hasn't arrived yet (dammit!) but I totally knew something like this would happen - Rowling has just dropped way too many references to the phoenix to not have someone die and then come back from the dead. I figured it would most likely be Harry.
And I pretty much guessed that Snape was in love with Lilly after OotP and it is nice to hear that he was always loyal to Dumbledore and now I have an excuse to like him other than Alan Rickman plays him in the films.
Now if only my own damn copy would get here...

I could have done with less children at the end and a little more on say Tonks & Lupin's deaths or what McGonagal was up to post-war.
