The Works of Valerie Martin

Mary Reilly. Property. The Unfinished Novel. These are some of my favorite books by one of my all-time favorite authors, Valerie Martin. Bitingly sparse prose, perfect pacing, taut suspense and a little bit of dark humor thrown in for fun. She's awesome. Her fiction has so many qualities (including realistically written female characters who are human and sometimes daringly unsympathetic) that I'm trying to capture in my own writing. I don't yet own her delicious-looking new book, Trespass, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Anyone else heard of her?

Wait a week or so - I picked up Mary Reilly from my local library, and need to read it. All I knew about it was that it was the basis for some Julia Roberts movie (I don't judge books on movie adaptations - that would be cruel to the author!).
