Floor lamp for the living room? Maybe wood with bronze accents?

I'm seeking ideas for a first communion gift. I got a signet ring and a $500 savings bond, which isn't happening. This kid is a cool sporty girl, and not really in need of anything, so...do I even need to get a gift?

I think I got a white satin bound bible for mine. Maybe a ring from my grandmom. Get a card and a check for $50 and you’re golden.

I'm giving my niece money (cash, I've not yet decided the amount, something in the $20-$30 range.) I also gave both of her older brothers money. I'm pretty sure that's all I got when I had my first communion, aside from the snow globe one of my neighbors gave me.

My most memorable First Communion gift was a book about the saints. I read that all the time. I gave niece a book about saints and a rosary for her First Communion.

If you want to give her a gift, I think it's best to stick to something religious (a book, small cross necklace, etc). I think it's good to stick with something appropriate for the fact that the child is receiving a sacrament. Some people seem to go a bit crazy and gift like it's a birthday or Christmas. For my nephew (who's also my godson), I bought a small worry-stone type thing that has "Faith" printed on it and a small paperback book written for grade-school level about incorporating religion/spirituality into everyday life.

I had a little book about St Theresa (it may have been my mother’s) and it had an illustration of the floating head of Jesus she saw. I totally expected such visions as a child. As in much of life, I was disappointed.

May I suggest a children’s book about the remarkable twelfth century proto-feminist nun Hildegard von Bingen?
