I've seen that painting before, and the thing that amazes me is that people would want that in their house, regardless of whether or not it is haunted. That is one butt-ugly painting. Does anyone here watch "Ghost Hunters" on the Sci-Fi channel? I like them because they usually try to debunk stuff instead of automatically assuming that something is there the way most of these shows go, and even when they find something weird, they usually say, "Well, we can't be sure what that was." Anyhoo, on a recent episode they caught what appears to be an image of a ghost on a thermal camera. I've looked at it, and I can't think of a way to debunk it (I haven't dug around the web all that much to see if others have). You can see footage of what they caught here. The image is of a man wearing a hat, who appears to move his head down. The glowing "2" you see in the image is actually painted on the locker behind the "ghost" that is glowing hot on the thermal camera for some unknown reason. On top of the page you can access links to other footage, including clips from the show where the guys try to debunk what they saw. What do you guys think?

If you are at all psychically sensitive or very impressionable, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT click on that haunted painting link. My gut level reaction has been to clean out my temp files so that picture does not lurk on my hard drive and clear my history too. I even want to erase that link just so that it can't accidentally be clicked and end up back on my computer
I looked yes. It's an ugly painting, the boy in the painting looks deformed, his head is mishapen and no one has eyes. Of course this is only from a quick look at it. It honestly looks like something out of someone's nightmare.
My gut level feeling is that it's a pshychological experiment to test the power of suggestion. Why do I say that? Because I was perfectly fine having seen the picture of this "thing".
Then I read. Near the bottom of the story about the painting is the suggestion not to let juveniles or small children view the painting. Here was I holding my sweet little 19 month old, he's sick has bumbed his head and is obviously feeling terrible. The frission of fear that went through me at that point was horrible. I clicked off the screen closed this website and walked away from the computer.
My stomach was knoting, not the pit but you could say my uterus was aching...My knees began to feel weak and I started shaking. That's when I invoked the Blood of The Christ. I know many people are not believers here, but it is my protection. I called upon my God and The Christ and my mother and asked them to protect me and my family. I spoke to the weird presence I felt hanging around me and said. "As you can see, I am well protected. You will find no purchase here for your fear. Begone lest you suffer what The Blood of The Christ will do with you for harming one who belongs to him." I still don't feel quite so well. I know I'm safe but I don't ever want to see that again. Ever...ever. I'd rather find Vincent and Robert and give them both big hugs and kisses before ever laying eyes on that painting again. My knees still feel weak and I feel faint. And yes I am very impressionable, why do you ask?
So, did I have a violent reaction to that painting? Well if you consider what I posted above to be violent...then yes.

Are you joking or is that serious? Anyway, kostgard, yes, that video is pretty creepy... I couldn't watch it (as soon as I saw the man I closed the page because it was veray veray scary). I mean, it's definitely the silhouette of a man, wheter it's a ghost or not it's up for debate.
Hee. Yeah, honestly it's not only butt ugly but I think the whole story is fabricated. I just don't believe it.

Yes I'm serious. You know what? I don't believe it either, but my maternal feelings took over when it warned against children looking at the painting and I just freaked thinking that my son might come to some sort of harm. The maternal alarms are hard hard hard to ignore. And like I said, Yes I am THAT impressionable.

I just looked at the painting. I got nuthin. Maybe if I were at home tonight instead of sitting in a bright classroom full of kids, I'd feel differently. Hey- I know! If juveniles aren't supposed to look at it, I wonder what would happen if I got some of these annoying little sh*ts to look at it?? Hmmmm...

Well, I just went and looked up images of the "haunted" painting and I just don't get it. Sure, it's an eerie, unpleasant painting but I don't understand why it supposedly has this visceral effect on people who look at it.

I think the painting was suddenly "haunted" as a means for driving up the asking price. It's only haunted by ugliness, otherwise I wasn't creeped out by the painting at all. But if "haunted" works as a selling point on eBay, I've got an exceptionally haunted set of golf clubs I'd like to unload. Starting bid only $200 $2000!
I love "Ghost Hunters" and love how they look for a rational explanation to everything they see. But I admit to loving it even more when they get completely spooked by something. It's always funny to watch grown men shriek in fear.
That video definitely looked like a man standing there...whether ghost or production assistant, who knows? Still, cool to see something like that.

Anyone watch Possessed Possessions last night? It was like a haunted Antiques Roadshow with James Van Pragh. I only saw a few items because my husband refused to watch "that stupid crap", but I thought it was hilarious. One item was a box filled with surgical instruments. The psychic told the owner that they were definitely haunted by evil spirits and he should get them out of his house. The owner's response: "I think I'll sell them on Ebay".
There was also a haunted WWI bayonet that came with a totally made up story. An English soldier supposedly killed his buddy a German soldier with it. The ghost spoke to the lady that owned it. She heard it say, "Hey". She didn't mention if it said it with a German accent, though.
I don't like to look at that Haunted Painting because I think it's creepy, but it doesn't give me any kind of reaction.

Heh. James Van Pragh is such a phony. Heck, even Allison DuBois, the person the show "Medium" is based on has specifically said that she "doesn't endorse him" (which is a nice way of saying "I think he's full of crap") while she just says "I don't know that person" when asked about any other psychic. Don't know how "real" her abilities are, but it tickles me that he is the one that she's singled out as a phony.
I love that person's reaction - "Eh, I'll just sell 'em on eBay and dump these evil instruments on some unsuspecting idiot. As long as they are out of my house..."
I was watching something on hauntings on the Discovery channel last night (and learned that animal expert Jeff Corwin is a direct descendent of the real Dracula) about haunted houses, and told these stories of families dealing with some pretty severe hauntings.
First thing that amazed me was the one family who bought this haunted house and couldn't believe how cheap it was and that no one else wanted it. This immediately made me think of the episode of The Simpsons where Marge becomes a real estate agent, and while in the office points to a picture of a house and asks about selling it, and the manager-guy goes, "Oh, no. Not that one. That's the Murder House." So, already I'm laughing because these people bought the "Murder House" and their real estate agent let them. Then all this weird and horrible stuff starts happening, and NO ONE MOVES OUT. The family was so scared they would all sleep together in the living room. That always amazes me. If that stuff were happening to me, that house would be back on the market faster than you could blink. Yet you always hear about these people who stay and tough it out.

That would have been awesome. One of my mom's friend's husband told us that our old high chair was haunted. But he was a nutcase. He told also told my mom that the big boulder in her front yard was a strong source of energy and looked really put out when my mom asked how she might hook it up to the house because she wanted to bring her hydro bill down.
