Yes, he WAS Chris... I got it confused with his nickname. They both called each other Sam. And yeah, of course people were pissed. After 5 or 6 seasons they finally got together, only to kill him. Both actors were leaving the show, so instead of writing them out together, that's what happened. I mean, it was pretty shocking, but it sucked balls.
ETA: To add insult to injury, Rita's character was pregnant with their baby. They got together in episode 8, found out about the baby in episode 10, got married in episode 11, and he died in episode 12. SERIOUSLY?!?

One of my saddest TV moments is, bizarrely, the episode of The West Wing in which C.J.'s boyfriend-of-five-minutes, Simon Donovan, is shot and killed in a convenience store. I find it bizarre that the ep moved me to tears because it's a bad episode, at the tail-end of a bad season, with bad writing and bad acting and bad blocking and bad everything else. But the part where C.J. wanders aimlessly around Manhattan crying while "Hallelujah" plays in the background can still totally break me, breakage always made worse when the Ron Butterfield character kneels down in front of Simon's dead body (just before Bartlet's massive fall from grace at the very end).

Last night's episode of Deadliest Catch. Buckets, people. Poor Jake. I was busy and only able to see bits and pieces but I saw enough of an emotional Captain Sig to get choked up myself because an emotional Captain Sig is a scary thing to me. From what I gather Jake's sister passed away right? I think it was so cool that they turned the boat around so he could go home to his family. I know that is not always the way in the fishing industry and I also wonder whether all of the other Captains on the show would make the same decision. Captain Keith would I would bet but I am not too sure about Captains Jon & Andy.

All four hours of Whitney Houston's funeral. Yes. FOUR HOURS. And I ugly cried through most of it.
I am not made of stone, people.

It was a combination of the waste of Whitney's life and talent, the sadness her family and friends had for their loss and the unwavering faith that was being told to the masses. Very touching and moving.

I know, this is a really old post -- I just wanted to say how much I agreed with you, Smilla. Mr. S. and I both cried, watching this one. Several of my other "made me cry" moments came courtesy of Torchwood, specifically the deaths of Owen, Toshiko, and Ianto. * Sob *

I wouldn't exactly call this one sad, but it has the capacity to make me tear up just the same. The climactic scene in the Medium pilot features Allison, who has long denied the reality of her psychic skills, trying to get an imprisoned child murderer to disclose where he's hidden evidence before the authorities have to let him go. When he won't confess, she is forced to rely on her 'other' abilities. It's the moment we realize Allison is willing to embrace her power, but also when we see how gruesome it is, and how difficult it's going to be for her to use it.
(To murderer) "You know, you didn't walk into this room alone."
(Looking at the prison gaurds) "I don't mean them. It's nothing you can see. But over there, standing in the corner...is the ghost of the man who molested you after the Easter barbecue your aunt and uncle took you to when you were eight. And standing next to him is the man who molested him at summer camp in Michigan in 1967. And that man's soul is forever haunted by the souls of the three men who took advantage of that man when he was a ten-year-old boy back in 1955 on a school trip to Washington D.C...Wait! I'm just getting started. The room is filled with them. It's you men I'm talking to. You men know what I'm looking for. If any of you have anything to say...anything...to help break this chain of evil...
(crying) I can hear you. You just have to speak to me."

I was fine until they started to play IWALY and the pallbearers took the casket out of the church. I began to cry hyperventilate, like she was family.

"it was good, yeah? Don't forget me". Oh god, that scene made me, in the immortal words of Jay and Silent Bob, cry like a little bitch with a skinned knee and shit. Also, I would like to add every single second of the episode of Buffy when her mom dies. Then the scene in the next episode when Angel comes to comfort her.
