Eh, Super Milk Chan has its moments but honestly, it's more of a parody of anime that only anime fans would really get and as we all know, Sunday nights are no place for anime fans. Anime is teh suck, don't you know. So it belongs on late weekday nights. As for Robot Chicken, I'm falling in love with this show after last night's Sleepaway Camp reference. "Oh my god, somebody remembered this film so we could do a skit on it!!" Classic.

Monster Zero, i agree with you on Robot Chicken. I watched all the eps I could find and I for one can never look at Voltron, Unicorns or Cannonball Run in the same way again.

Yeah, Robot Chicken does a good job of taking one's childhood and turning it into your own brand of hell. After that Smurfs one....oh geez.

I love Robot Chicken, it's just so wrong...but it feels so right.
Harvey Birdman is great, as is Family Guy (I don't like the new episodes, but the old ones are great) and I LOVE the Venture Brothers. Such doofuses.

I'm not on the Robot Chicken bandwagon, yet. I have the same problem with the parodies as I do with those in Family Guy. It is not enough just to reference a pop culture icon. You have to actually do something funny with the reference. Like the Olsen Twins skit last night. They could have made that really over-the-top, but instead they pulled more punches than Mike Tyson. They are rich! Famous! And sell cosmetics! One low-key sandwich joke at the end? Where are the ginormous Starbucks cups? The troll-doll jokes? Something actually funny, not just referential?
While I'm ranting, I still love me some Bob Odenkirk from Mr. Show days, and I'm probably the only person in the world who neither hates nor loves Tom Goes To The Mayor, yet. But Bob's parody of "No Rain"? Hardly on the cutting edge of pop culture. The song is over a decade old, the lead singer is dead already, and now is the time to dust it off for some funnin?

I think it's already gone, into the vortex of Constantly Changing Saturday Night Anime.
One of the problems Robot Chicken will always have is that they're not based out of Atlanta and have a perchant to use 'famous' people to do the voices. As a result they won't go too far over the edge with it and that's going to be a downfall for it. Essentially Robot Chicken is perfect for Adult Swim and yet its complete opposite: why they need the actual people to voice it is beyond me. Just hire some impersonators or Adult Swim alumni (from Sealab, maybe?) and be done with it.
Christ, that was Blind Melon? I had forgotten about them already! But I agree, I think Mayor needs another season to sort themselves out as it can be a funny show ("HOBO ZOO!") but they were scattershot. It wasn't until they introduced Joy and Tom's life outside of his time with the Mayor that it become a bit funnier. Simply torturing a milquetoast day after day with a lunatic authority figure does get old fast.....of course this hasn't made me stop watching it, but I think if it finds its stride it could rock. Of course, nothing really beat the ending of last night's episode 'Vice Mayor.' "Simple, Tom, I poisoned the hot dogs."
*roll credits, until*
"WHAT??"
Comedy GOLD.

I think "Tom" suffers from the same problem that afflicted "Sealab", in that the people making the show are having so much fun making it that they sometimes forget that it should be entertaining to the audience as well. The behind-the-scenes shots of the "real" mayor dancing around, or the "real" Tom wearing the outfits were funnier than anything I've seen on-screen yet.
And, of course, we all know that The Mayor won't lift a finger to rescue Tom from the Hobo Zoo, before or after he wakes up.

Calvin, you bring up a very good point. I noticed that everybody involved with the Behind the Scenes episodes were having more fun than I was. It looked like a show that was a blast to work on yet when I watch it very little of that makes it to the screen. And shit, what happened to Bob Odenkirk's hair??
And God, someone actually looks like JOY??? God no!!

The Venture Brothers is the only Adult Swim show I've seen, but I love it out of all proportion. I don't know whether Brock Samson or Dr. Orpheus makes me laugh harder.
I think I heard that it'll be 2006 before a second season airs? Damn.

I wish that they would show more of the original Adult Swim shows rather than showing "Family Guy" constantly.
I've been trying to get a friend hooked on them, but I don't think she gets the absurd humor. When I asked her what she thought of the line-up, her only comment was "The cup is a dick."
