No love for the Calvin ads from Sat? Kevin Hart kinds of gets on my nerves but the last skit of the night I was amazed at his ability to never take a breath while rapping/singing.

I am so not a country fan but I really liked Blake Shelton's first song. The second one was okay. I thought that he did pretty good as a host too.

they're showing the very first episode of SNL right now on NBC. It really is amazing this worked. It certainly wouldn't today.
It opens with George Carlin's extended riff on football vs. baseball. Then it had a fake commercial about receiving a fake dad after the real one dies. Then Billy Preston performed "Nothing from Nothing". Then we got our first live sketch, with a courtroom scene that is basically a game of Telephone. And just now Andy Kaufman did his "Mighty Mouse" theme song.
All of that in 20 minutes.
And, of course, everyone looks sooooo young.

I've been checking in on the old episodes every now and then. It's an interesting history lesson. There was an early 90's bit where a couple of guys harassed people walking by from their front porch that included several gay jokes that would be totally unacceptable now. I also caught Kate Bush performing in all her kooky glory and realized if she came onto the music scene now I'd roll my eyes and ignore her and end up missing out on enjoying some great music and artistry. I might have to try to stop being so cynical.

I love love love the Hill & Weingrad book about the first ten years of the show. It seemed like such a wild ride. No one in the book comes off very well but that just adds to the fun for an innocent bystander.

I'm watching the red carpet pre-show and saw Chevy Chase being interviewed. He did not look good. Have I missed something? Is he not well?
