What did you not like about the book? I'm trying to remember- all I can recall right now is my automatic, "Blech" at the thought.

You might enjoy Starkey's documentary on the six wives for snark value. Along with his dramatic narration, the universal symbol for childbirth is a woman washing her hands in a basin. Bloody hands = miscarriage. Blood-free hands = successful live birth.

He certainly is dramatic. MrCatHead and I are enjoying saying normal everyday things a la Starkey. "I would like my breakfast and tea now, my darling!"

It's the Victorian version of sending cell phone nudie pics to your husband.

Wait, how is this a reveal or a secret? It isn't exactly new and has been shown before.
Last year the BBC aired "Victoria: A Royal Love Story" as part of the big Victoria & Albert exhibition, where a large part of their private art collection was shown, including this portrait. And many other documentaries prior have also included the portrait.

I believe it was also featured on the dust jacket of a Victoria bio in the last decade. I love Winterhalter portraits.

Langley sounds nuttier than a Payday candy bar. That being said, I think this is an awesome discovery.
