What did everyone think of the recent episode with Charla? I just caught up with in from OnDemand and was cracking up. It was a nice new twist to the show.

wow? I know people either loved or hated this show but I am surprised it was cancelled. Maybe if Lisa Kudrow whipped out a boob HBO would have felt differently! I liked this show as it seemed to be an honest-ish look at the tv actress/industry. Lisa Kudrow was really quite good because her subtle mannerisms which spoke volumes really.
But the one thing that I absolutely hated about this show that affected voice she put on. WHERE in the world did that come from? It was like nails on the chalkboard to me.

I'm not surprised it got cancelled. It was funny, but it was also uncomfortable to watch. Most people probably don't want to sit down and relax in front of the t.v. with something that makes them feel uncomfortable.
I think it would have also had a better shot if Lisa had waited another few years before launching it. "Friends" just ended last year amid way too much hype; she hasn't been gone long enough to warrant doing a show called "The Comeback." (Lisa, how can we miss you if you won't go away? And that goes for Matt "Joey" Le Blanc too.)

I have come to resurrect this thread. This has been on HBO On Demand again and I swear to God, I have watched each episode about 3 or 4 times within the past month. I love it even more this time around. I was NEVER a big Lisa Kudrow fan but I think that she's pitch perfect in this role. Not unlikeable (that's awful in a lead character) but not entirely sympathetic either. What I really love is that I don't feel that the characters are 100% anything. I particularly love the character/actress of Juna. What could be an annoying little bimbo is an amazingly sweet and endearing person. I think maybe it is a combination of good writing and a testament to the strength of the actress (who is she, and WHERE is she, btw?). Valerie's husband is great, and his daughter is hilarious and a nightmare. In fact, I love all of the supporting characters, like the gay hairdresser who's attached at her hip and is constantly in a mumu ("I'm using your Comeback party as my Coming Out party!" Valerie's face is priceless.) A few things that bother me though--I hate the way the female writer character of Gigi is treated--unfunny and offensive jokes about her weight--it was just a bit unbelievable. Also, with Paulie G's Comeback interview--I just didn't get it. Was he finally being sincere- because being honest, she WAS a consummate professional and knew what she was doing, and that was just editing's brilliant idea of great TV--or was that one last fuck you to hate on Valerie? Ideas?

Don't call it a comeback; call it The Comeback. (I tried to be very Valerie Cherish just then.) Guys, I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!

Yay! Me too! My bff and I binge watch the season about every other year or so. Sooo good, so well-done, so underrated.

Yeah, and it became weirdly relatable to my life a few years back. Our then-VP at my office hired a bunch of new college graduates(10 years my junior) for our department, so all the management was like bending over backwards to "be cool with the kids" or whatever. It was a similar kind of cringyness.
