I've really liked Kini this whole season, but I have to say this whole last episode felt like total manipulation. I doubt he was in on it at all, but I felt like they were really trying to create a "he pulled it out at the last minute" storyline since a "he was the clear front runner all along" is just too boring in their minds. If he wins, I'm going to feel very manipulated. But I don't want to root against him either. Boo. So it wasn't just me then. I thought the same thing, because his work just seems to be on a completely different level. I kind of liked the coat that the judges told him to ditch. That was a hell of a lot of work.

I liked the coat too, it needed a good ironing and a funky belt though.

So... the finale happened. I can't really argue with the result.
I thought all of the final collections were extremely boring. A lot of commenters on TLo's site have been saying the final three should have been Fade, Sandhya and Korina and now I'm inclined to agree.
Love Kini but I thought his collection was disappointingly dull. Char pleasantly surprised me.

Yeah I only half watched. I feel like this show is having a harder and harder time convincing people it's relevant in any way. The majority of Top Chef winners and participants have massive respect and it seems to be well received in the culinary community -- Project Runway is really just a joke.
I also though all the collections were Boring. I did think they had a point about Kini doing better when he had to be spontaneous.
On paper, Sean is the perfect winner for this show - editorial designs, red carpet worthy, photogenic himself with a cool accent. They should really throw all the PR and marketing behind him that they can to try to prove the show means something. If he can't become a famous designer then put a fork in the show.

How many times over the years have we complained about the lack of color in the finale? And yet here we were again.
It was boring, boring, boring. And so much fringe. Amanda probably should have won, since she used more than one color and more than one fabric.
I'm glad and sad that this has become Not Must See TV anymore. I only just watched the finale this morning.
But bring on All Stars. I'll still be watching.

Sigh. This show used to be must see. Then came the season Gretchen won (over Mondo) with a hideous assortment of adult diapers and southwest blankets. I still watched, but it had lost the spark for me.
This finale seemed more about styling than design. Most of what I saw, I could buy already. Especially Char's. Innovation, technique and cohesion used to matter.
Back to being a casual viewer, I guess. In the "if it's on I might watch, but only if the Law & Order ep on the other channel is one that I've seen recently" way.

PR never recovered from that legal dispute between Bravo/Universal and Lifetime, where it went off the air for a year. It lost its momentum. Then there were changes that ruined some of the fun for me. The "lost" season shot in LA was dreadful. Axing the model selection drama. Gretchen winning. Anya winning. And Zac Posen replacing Michael Kors.

I thought there was some glimmer of recovery during the Lifetime years. Seth Aaron vs. Emilio was a strong final match-up. And Mondo produced some really beautiful, eye-catching clothes throughout his season.
Gretchen's win was probably the single jump-the-shark moment, but in some ways I think Anya's win was worse. As much as I did not like Gretchen or her aesthetic, she at least could construct clothes and jewelry and had some actual craftsmanship to offer. Anya was the contestant who made the producer manipulations too obvious to ignore.
What is truly fucking up the show, IMHO, is the way they've shortened the timetable. They NEED to go back to two-day challenges as the default, and to also give the finalists more time for the final runway collections. Yeah, I know shorter timeframes make for more drama and save money, but the clothes suck.

FotoStoreSheila, I don't think Zac Posen is that bad from what I've seen this season (aside from what people on other message boards pointed out about him seemingly manhandling the models). Yet, I did miss Michael Kors this season. I haven't even watched the last two or three episodes yet. I usually catch up On Demand, but I haven't felt like doing that yet. I saw the Fashion Week collections weeks ago. Once I found out that Sandhya and Fade were decoys, I lost a lot of interest. Korina's epic meltdown later was basically the nail in the coffin for me for various reasons.

I don't mind Zac Posen. I just really liked Michael Kors.
Speaking of the big-mouth bass, it looks like she's not done dramatically storming off. The preview of the reunion episode shows more eye-rolling, weeping, and tantrums.
I always wonder what the show "villains" are thinking when they behave like a-holes and then double down. Who would want to financially back a jerk like Korina? Or even hire her to design a gown? She is not talented enough to get away with being so horrible. I appreciate a designer like Kini who didn't win, but wins at life because he behaved like an adult, and is apt to reap the benefits of the free exposure from the show. Michael Costello is another one. He didn't win, but he has managed to expand his brand and garner even more exposure designing for the rich and famous.
