This show will combine two of my greatest passions: the art of ice skating, and watching washed up celebrities embarrass themselves. The show premieres Wednesday, January 18, 9:00/8:00 Central.
The teams are (celeb first, pro skater second):
Jillian Barberie & John Zimmerman Deborah Gibson & Kurt Browning Kristy Swanson & Lloyd Eisler Dave Coulier & Nancy Kerrigan Bruce Jenner & Tai Babilonia Todd Bridges & Jenni Meno
And the whole thing will be hosted by Scott Hamilton and Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders. I still have some questions I need to look up the answers to regarding Scott's job as host, because it was my understanding that he'd be commentating for NBC at the Olympics in Turin this coming February. Unless this show wraps up within a month (I doubt), it's going to be running the same time as the Olympics, and the Wednesday night broadcasts are supposed to be Live. There are no figure skating sessions scheduled for Wednesday night in Turin, but I find it hard to believe that Scott would fly back to the US to do this show, especially with the time difference, and then fly back to Italy the next day. The men's and ladies' free skates will both be on Thursday.
I need to look into the scheduling of it all to get it all straightened out. Maybe Scott has decided not to commentate at the Olympics and I missed the announcement. Either way, I wonder how having this show overlap the Olympics will affect the ratings.

Swan, you can be the CPMCoG expert and I expect nothing but the finest critique through the whole series.

Me too. I wasn't planning on watching, but now maybe I will, just to keep up with Swanflake's thorough recaps.
And to watch Todd Bridges, who I still have a crush on after all these years, despite his crack addiction and brushes with the law.

There's a little teeny part of me that is so excited about this, and then I realized it's only because we have the opportunity to watch celebrities fall on their asses.

Me too! From the previews it looks like someone takes a skate blade to the head, I have taken one to the thigh and can say it stings like hell, can't imagine the head though. I may be more excited about this than season 2 on Dancing with the Stars.
There is a part of me that is a little sad that this was the show they replaced my beloved Arrested Devlopment with.
I wonder if they will have a special guest host for the duration of the Olympic skating events? Because I would beat Scott Hamilton over the head with a brick in my skate if he passed up the Olympics for the likes of Todd Bridges and Jillian Barberie.

I gather this is on Fox?
I'll probably watch a few episodes, but the Olympics will eventually win out. Ten bucks says Jillian Barberie will have a wardrobe mishap akin to What's-Her-Name's on Dancing with the Stars.
Dave Coulier CAN skate, right? I know there's a big difference between hockey and figure skating, but at least we know he can stay on his feet. And that's not fun to watch.

You mean this isn't a joke??? I thought it was something akin to "Landing a DC-10 With The Stars" as on The Soup. God, where's Tonya Harding when you really need her?
ETA - 200 posts I've reached??? Wow, that's a lot.

I wonder if she'll have the person who designed Mariah's New Year's Eve outfit make her skating costumes? My only hope? Toepick!...anyone?...anyone?....

Topher and zacandmax, I shall not let you down.
I get the joke indygirl, and you might be interested in knowing that they're going to film a sequel to The Cutting Edge! But I haven't heard too much about it.
Add me to the list of people who think Jillian Barberie will be the Kelly Monaco of the series. Jillian is employed by FOX Sports, isn't she? Plus, her partner John is a pairs skater so that means she'll have less work to do, I would guess. He can lift her up, skate around, and do all the work, and she'll just have to smile and hold a simple, yet aesthetically pleasing position. And, John will probably be considered the most attractive skater in the cast, which will earn them some votes. The female celebs who got partnered up with pair skaters (Jillian and Kristy) are at a big advantage, I'd think, in that they could be lifted and carried around without too much effort on their part. The male celebrities are not going to become secure enough skaters to do any lifts, and I wouldn't think the pro ladies would risk being lifted by them anyway--Tai isn't a spring chick, and Nancy and Jenni are both mothers with careers in pro shows.
