Fluke Man freaked me out. He still freaks me out. That serial killer Donnie Pfaster (sp?) who cut off women's fingers and hair and fixated on Scully....so creepy. And remember the guy who could shimmy through pipes and ate people's livers? <shudder>
I never had a problem with Doggett and Reyes; I thought they did a good job with what they were given to work with. THAT's what wasn't so good, the stuff they were given to work with.
But FLUKEMAN....GAH!!!

That's the one my co-worker reminds me of.
My vote for freakiest episode is also "Home." Violent, inbred, caveman, rednecks -- nothing scarier.

From the very beginning, my favorite episodes were ALWAYS the ones that had nothing to do with the sub-themes. I liked the plain-old-giant-alligator-eats-townsfolk-inbred-creepos-murder-innocent-folk episodes. I'm sorry, I didn't really give a crap about the Smoking Man or the M/S 'ship, or the underlying conspiracy crap. In fact, I HATED the whole M/S "will they or won't they" sub-text. Just investigate weird shit, dammit! Just give me Flukeman!
I loved the one with the kid that could like, channel electricity or something.

When I was into the X-Files in high school I had a friend who also watched the show and felt that way. I was all about the shipping, but she insisted that Scully was impregnated by space monkeys (and insists that to this day) and was not interested in the ship at all.

Hi guys, Long-time lurker, First-time poster here. I still get pulled in by this show. "Pusher" was the best episode of season 3.Watching it a couple of days ago, I was amazed at how good Gillian and Duchovny were in that Russian Roullette scene. It was pitch-perfect.

I never really liked this show that much (though in 7th grade I would lie and say that I did because I thought it made me look smart), but the few times that I would sit down and watch it were when I'd catch an episode that had nothing to do with the ongoing plots of the show. Because I could never keep up with whatever this show was actually about.

Jose Chung, played by Charles Nelson Reilly! Yesss!
The first episode you mentioned, "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space,'" had the hilarious moment where some of Chung's awful prose is being acted out, and Mulder shrieks, "Whooo! That's one bleepin' dead alien!" And the second one had gorgeous Luke Wilson wearing Bubba Teeth, as I recall. Those are some of my favorites, too.
ETA: Post 666 -- kinda fitting for this thread!

I kind of try and pretend Season 9 never existed. In my mind, the series ended with Mulder and Scully kissing as they held baby William. The only episode I watched in S9 was the finale. I did like that the series ended where it began (M/S in some random motel room, fighting the good fight). I also liked Doggett/Robert Patrick, but the show itself was just so exasperating at that point. The resolution to the Samantha storyline was so lame that I can't even remember what it was. Welcome, trustnoone (hmmm...wonder where that name came from? )! Now I really want to see that episode again. I see that Amazon now has the earlier season for non-rip-off prices, so now I'm really tempted to buy. Damn it. I remember having to call a friend of mine during every commercial break during the original airing of "Home", because I was so freaked out. I've never heard "Wonderful, Wonderful" in the same way since. Favorite episode: "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'" Hilarious, but ultimately bittersweet.
