Oh, another one that I liked was Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose with Peter Boyle. He could see how people would die. I love it purely for the line that he says after Mulder pisses him off: "Autoerotic aphyxiation is a horrible and lonely way to die." and Mulder says something like "Why would you tell me that?"
Heh. I love whenever they paint Mulder as perv.

I believe Peter Boyle won an Emmy for that, or was at least nominated.

I stopped watching when they destroyed Dana Scully - turning her into a whining, sobbing mombie. Killing Krycek (my fave) was bad enough, but this was IT for me. I think the last EP I watched was the one where Moronica was trapped in a doll house. So I didn't even get to the one where the Lone Gunmen die - no bloody way in Hell is that alright with me, even though their spin-off was pretty bad indeed.
For the record, I loved Doggett, so it had nothing to do with that. Just the Mulder/Scully shipping getting all mushy and annoying, with all that stupid baby crap. I have yet to finish Season 9, though I have it all on tape.

Is it bad that I don't remember any of this? I've seen every episode! (Except for MAYBE one or two in seasons 8 or 9, but I'm pretty sure I saw them all.
I hated Doggett. Ugly, annoying accent, and boring.
I always thought I liked Scully better and just as much by herself as with Mulder, but it's really them as a team that's appealing. The Scully-only episodes aren't as boring to me as the Mulder-only episodes, but they're nowhere near as entertaining as the ones with M/S interaction.

Musings of a non-Cigarette Smoking X-Files FanPLUSES+ If there's ever been a show that did 'Monsters / Psychic Phenomena / Weird Shit of the Week' better (aside from Doctor Who, perhaps I've yet to encounter it. + Back in the day, Mulder and Scully did have good chemistry. + If you can manage to get over the 'OMG they got rid of mulder!!!!' feeling, Robert Patrick is pretty good as Mulder's replacement. Good how they made Doggett skeptical but not closed-minded - like, he might not believe this crazy shit, but he's got no problem believing that other people believe it. +It's creepy and dark, and the Cigarette Smoking Man is one of the coolest icons of badass evilness in television history. + The music is really good and haunting. MINUSES+ Some of the voice overs, episodes and 'mythologies' are probably the most pompous and portentious things ever committed to film and broadcast. + By Season Six it was obvious that as far as the mythology went, they were making it up as they went along. + Mulder should have just disappeared for good; you could just feel how David Duchovny didn't really care anymore. + Addition to the above; the 'Mulder as Christ Figure' stuff in the later seasons really was annoying.

I LOVED KRYCEK! Hottest amputee badass in the history of television. (PS. He died after Skinner shot him between the eyes.)
And I totally agree that Mulder-as-Christ figure was annoying. If I recall correctly, those episodes were co-written (or entirely written) by David Duchovny. The ego on that man makes me nauseous.

I think the way they resolved the whole Samantha thing was totally ridiculous. Magic fairies in Santa Claus Land - WTF?!? (or whatever that was!) It totally contradicted everything we had seen before that - i.e. about aliens abducting her. What a letdown.

I'm about half-way through Season 3 in what I call The Great X-Files Watch and stuck at Piper Maru which I really, really don't want to watch as I'm pretty sure it's another completely boring Mythology two-parter. Like what a lot of others have said, I'm a Monster of the Week-er. I love the Mulder and Scully interaction of the series, in the humour and the way they look at each other, but the most interesting part is the weird tales of supernatural America.
I'm enjoying the old school seasons a lot more than I'd thought, but I'm anticipating 4-6 more ... Season Six is my favourite with Dreamland, Triangle, Monday and others.
I actually enjoyed the series right through when I watched them (they got pretty eclectic TV spots here in NZ by the end), and really grew to like Doggett even though Robert Patrick gave me the creeps from his Terminator 2 character.
I watched Grotesque the other night and I swear I've never seen it. What a disappointment that the episode is so ... boring!
Oh, and I have three individual case seasons and six seasons in the fold out cases. It drives me NUTS.

I need to get me some DVD Files. I have none and I've had to toss a lot of my tapes (yes, tapes, I taped THEM ALL DAMMIT) because they were old and in terrible shape. And I do miss this show very much when autumn rolls around.

I caught a season 7 (or 8?) episode. I forgot how much they sucked. I adored Doggett and didn't miss Mulder at all (to this day, I hate David Duchovny for bailing and phoning it in, not in that order). But the writing turned to shit!
