No thread on the greatest actor of all time? Blasphemy! God he was THE SEX in Streetcar Named Desire.

Dead yet?
Oh yeah, that's right. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
On first thought, he was a strange choice for "Last Tango in Paris", yet it seemed to work.

Guys and Dolls is on TCM now. This has to be one of my favorite Brando movies.

You don't think he was - despite the adulation - rather too much of a ham actor? Granted, he was, in his younger and fitter days, a thing of pure beauty to look at, and he wore a leather jacket better than anybody else of his generation, but he never, imo, had a voice that was a great actor's voice and I never can buy the Method as anything more, in general, than self indulgence.
Yes, I expect to be shot down in flames, LOL, but Brando has just never done it for me.

I've heard that despite the fact that Brando studied at the actors studio, he wasn't really a method actor.
All I know is that I've liked most of the performances of his that I've seen.

I liked him in most everything I have seen him in (except for Guys and Dolls, sorry!), and when he was young, he was just about the most beautiful man I have ever seen. For me, though, his defining role was in The Godfather.
He will always be Don Corleone to me.

He was sooooo gorgeous in his younger days and absolutely oozed sex appeal. Too bad his looks went so far downhill, however he was always uber talented. Definetely one of the greatest actors ever. Unfortunately, from everything I know about him, he was a first class-grade a-raging asshole, so he loses points with me.

I think of Brando as the direct opposite of a ham, actually, especially in his very best work. In On the Waterfront, he gave such an amazingly natural performance. Every mannerism and line delivery just felt so real. It's true that his imitators are responsible for some overly self-indulgent work, but in my opinion every bit of Brando's adulation is earned.

gosh, never liked him, never will. do not understand the adulation, since to me he seemed to overact in just about everything. and yes, total a-hole in his personal life.
