He had Connor, as well as a daughter while they were married, and later blamed the break up on the fact that Pattie wasn't able to have children. In more recent years he has owned up to what really broke up the marriage, which I guess goes hand in hand with his recovery. I know he was seriously messed up during those years but I still wouldn't have handled it all as gracefully as Pattie.
ETA: Didn't Pattie and Barbara Bach start some charity for drug addiction or something? I swear I saw that on TV.

Speaking of quiet, how about George's second wife? All I know about her is that a) she was a secretary, and b) you really don't want to try any home-invasion shit with her.

My first post on this forum, and I'll reiterate what I said on the livejournal thread:
I have mixed feelings on Cynthia. Of course, I do have a good deal of sympathy for her...the way John treated her, during their marriage and break-up, was reprehensible. And she seems to have been a good mom, and a decent person.
But I don't know how healthy her relationship with John was. To begin with, there's the way she comes off in such books as Peter Brown's The Love You Make. I don't know how much credence to give that book since there was a lot of doubt about certain details, but other sources such as Tony Bramwell's Magical Mystery Tours seem to agree with the picture he painted of Cynthia. Although Brown and Bramwell are sympathetic towards her, she seems to come off as more of a lost child than a mature adult woman.
Even more telling were some details about their early relationship. She seems to have harbored a "rescue complex" towards John, feeling that she was the only one who could understand and help this troubled soul. That's a recipe for disaster right there. She changed her appearance, demeanor, manner of dress, even her accent in those early days to try to win John and please him. Not all that healthy IMHO.
I believe, in her book A Twist Of Lennon, she said that she felt that she always felt she would get back together with John, that even after his death (after the book was published) she felt that, "some day, some way, John and I will always be together." Now, it's one thing to still harbor feelings for an ex, but this seems too much of a refusal to move on. I don't know whether this might have changed since the early eighties when she wrote this, and if it has I'll humbly kick myself, but...if this is truly the case, no wonder her subsequent marriages failed.
Finally, I tend to agree with what Tina Turner's friend yelled in the movie What's Love Got To Do With It, after Ike had taken a whack at her: "No m---f--- ever gets to hit me but ONCE!"
So...your thoughts?

What did she do during the home invasion? By the way, isn't his widow Mexican?

No idea as to whether or not she's Mexican, but during the 'home invasion' when George was struggling with the burglar, she grabbed a lamp and smacked the burglar over the head with it. End of fight.
She's got class.
George was always my favourite Beatle, maybe because he was the quiet one. I'm glad he found someone to be happy with. She seems to have suited him down to the ground.

I believe she was Mexican, daughter of immigrants who lived in LA. She and George had a strong resemblance to each other physically, as John did with Yoko. And their son Dhani was George down to a tee.

Eric Idle of Monty Python was a close friend of George's (was at his deathbed, even) and he described the attack, as told to him by George and Olivia, in his new book that's a compilation of his blog, The Greedy Bastard Diary. It was really horrific, and a 15 minute ordeal. George apparently smacked the intruder on the head first (after being stabbed) as he was going after Olivia. The guy turned back on George and stabbed him some more and that's when Olivia was able to beat him over the head. They guy still didn't quit, so Olivia ran downstairs and the guy was running after her when the head injuries finally kicked in and he fell down the stairs.
God bless, George, though. He had just hired new caretakers for the estate a few days prior and they were looking on in horror as George was being attended to by EMTs. He looked up at them and said, "So. How do you like the job so far?"

"Rubber Soul" and "Revolver" have been in heavy rotation in my car's CD player these past couple weeks, and I've been thinking how all the songs really stand the test of time. McCartney/Lennon truly were one of, if not the, best song writing teams ever.
About McCartney being the 'saccharine" one - I read a recent interview where he kinda acknowledged that repuation, but basically said "I'm an optimistic person. That's my outlook on life and it is reflected in my songs. I've been kinda tongue-in-cheek about the dark stuff in the past, like 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer,' but I'm just generally cheery." The interview also mentioned that he really dug down for the new album, so some stuff is a bit darker. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm interested to hear what he's come up with.
I always liked Paul and George the best - they both just seemed like nice guys. Lennon, while talented, seemed like he could often be a not-so-nice person, and Ringo is just really goofy.

Yea he is, but that's what made him so cute. My daughter used to love Thomas the Tank Engine, and it cracked me up to see him as Mr Conducter. Anytime I've got the blues I pop Help! into the VCR. He really cracks me up in that movie.
