They look like Kid 'n Play were crossed with the most annoying American Idol auditioners ever. And the Azerbaijan song sucked donkey balls. It sure did! I thought it was one of the worst songs of the night and thought it had absolutely no chance. I liked Serbia, BiH, the UK (yes, I am bad!), Italy, and even Ireland. Although the Jedward song wasn't great, they really worked it. I am a bit shocked that Azerbaijan won because the song really did suck.

So how political does this EuroVision song contest get? Is it like Olympic figure skating, where everyone will vote for their own skater regardless of talent?

Well people can't vote for their own contestant but very often neighbouring countries will give each other points. I was surprised though how many former Soviet-Union-states didn't give their usual 10 or 12 points to Russia. Which was ok I guess because that performance really sucked last night (he was better in the semi final).
Azerbaijan was one of my favourites but I thought they didn't sound too great yesterday, the female singer especially seems to be the weak link here. Loved how she grabbed the mic when her partner was being interviewed after they won, lol.
Loved the show in general but the boo-ing during the points was disgraceful. Also, I hate how hypocritical many people in Germany are. They bitch and moan about eastern European countries giving each other the high points but it's totally OK when Spain or France or Germany do the same.
I think Lena (Germany's contestant) seemed a bit out of place again and her performanc was too polished, it almost seemed like an official video clip with what clearly was the best camera work last night. But 10th is really great considering that before last year Germany was usually found among the last five.
So glad that Blue got so many points, I was really worried after their performance. I really hope they go back to their former style, all four of them are great singers and need to be heard so I hope they won't continue with the Euro-pop.

I liked the Ukraine's entry, only for the kick-ass overhead projecter sand painting thingie going on onstage with her (the song was dreck). It also inspired my favorite Tweet of the night: "Hey sand lady, draw a cock."
A day later and I still crack up every time I think of that.

The sand drawing was the best part of the entire eurovision contest. I was pleased that Moldova did as well as they did, but I didn't get Azerbaijan winning. I was even more stunned, though, that Italy came second. WTF? The song itself is decent, but the singer was awful. Much too weak a voice. Not that I really care. The music is rarely my kind of thing anyway. I just watch for the cheese and the laughs. The boyfriend and I had an excellent time watching, although that could have had something to do with the wine we were drinking.

I'm so rooting for the UK! This is going to be great.
Germany's entry, Roman Lob, was found through the same sort of competition like Lena (who won two years ago) but unfortunately he's Mr Blandy McBland with the blandest song ever to match. He's a cutie so he may well get some points for hotness ;-)
I hear Sweden is a favourite again but I haven't listened yet to any of the songs, waiting for the semifinals.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Russian grannies performing. I heard Engelbert's song the other night when he performed it on the UK's lottery program, and while it's ok, it's a bit low-key. I prefer more cheese and pop. I haven't heard the Dutch entry, although I remember some discussion of the person at the time. I think they wore a Native American costume of some sort. No idea. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it all.

Yes, the Russian grannies! I heard them practicing on telly and I want them to win.

Oh. My. God. What the hell was Turkey doing? Leather-clad sailors? Breakdancing? Freddie Mercury just pronounced that performance "too gay" from the grave. Loved every minute of the semifinals.
