And that's why Turkey was my favourite last night.

The semifinals were cool even though, as usual, some of my favourites didn't get through. Most importantly though, Jedward, Russian Grannies, Screeching Lady, Hot Guy from Norway and Turkey got through, so yay!
Sweden and the Russian Grannies are the favourites and I think that they plus Norway will be among the top 5. Sadly, I can't really see the German entry placing higher than 10 or so. If we're lucky. Roman's supposed to be a hit in Baku but, as I said, the song is underwhelming and only gets a bit better with repeated hearing which of course is not an option on Saturday.

Congrats and "hey, hey" to the Swedes! I actually like that song, so I'm happy with it.

Just come back from the viewing party with friends - yay for Sweden and YAY for Germany's 8th place! Poor UK though :-( I like Jedward but that song was actually terrible. Last year's number was fun and catchy but this one was simply exhausting and boring at the same time.

Heja Sverige! Way to go! I heard someone describe Jedward as the offspring of Angela Lansbury and C3PO. Heh.

Jedward's song was absoutely perfect. If you need music for an 80s movie montage.

I wonder how it is possible for them to sound worse and worse with each performance (with the ESC being a new lowpoint)? Shouldn't they become better instead of worse?

Ha, total double-post!
This year's show wasn't as wacky as usual and I liked that for once there wasn't a clear favourite beforehand. Conchita Wurst's song isn't anything special but I kinda love that she got points from all parts of Europe. I don't think it is the big FU to Russia the way many like to interpret her victory but maybe a sign for more tolerant times ahead. Speaking of Russia, booing the Russian twins was low. If you want to protest against Russia and Putin, by all means - do so, but booing young girls at a song contest is cheap.
Back to Conchita, of course many people are angry but I bet those same people had no problem with the Polish porn dancers.

I watched Conchita Wurst's performance, but I missed how it was considered a dis to Russia. Is it just that people voted her higher than the Russians?

People consider it a dig because Conchita is a gay man in drag. What many overlook is the fact that Russia has given her points too. You know what, despite their new laws, nobody can convince me that a nation that loves ballet, figure skating and the Eurovision Song Contest has massive problems with a bearded man in a dress.
