Why don't they use something like the Olympics figure skating style of voting/scoring to stop the former Soviet nations from all voting for each other?
At Astro.com there is a serious discussion underway about Eurovision and astrology. Other news: Finland is Sagittarian. Who knew? I hope Finland sends a better entrant than they sent the year after they won. I still can't believe they hosted and had their contestant sing about wanting to be left alone, when she needed to be courting the voters.

Ah, Eurovision! I watched Tuesday, but wasn't impressed by any of them. Not enough cheese and not catchy enough. Oh, except that one country with the male singer with the eyebrows and the two male dancers with him and the three backup singers in sunglasses. At one point the mister and I just burst out laughing at the same point during his performance.
The mister actually knows the drummer who's on tour with Lena (last year's winner), so that's kind of fun. As for The Netherlands' entrant, I haven't heard the song yet, but I do actually know of the band The 3Js and enjoy, as a guilty pleasure, a couple of their songs. I'm looking forward to seeing them tonight.

I watched Tuesday night as well, and my friend and I just laughed. I thought the lead singer for the Russians was gorgeous, but I can't remember the song. I could understand that at the end of the song, he said 'I love you' in Russian, but my Polish friend who speaks Russian said that the singer also said greetings for Victory Day.
Your mister knows Lena's drummer? I think she is such a cutie.

Woohoo, Jedward got through to the final, yay! So looking forward to tomorrow!
I'm really hoping that the ESC won't be a disaster for Blue and the UK. I was a Blue fan back then and they are still great but I think their song will sound messy when sung live. And reading through some reports from rehearsals, this might be true :-(.
I already hate Denmark's song which sounds like a mash-up of many other songs and I just know it will be very successful. It has Europe-wide appeal written all over it.

It is so bland, annoying and like you say it sounds like a mash-up of so many other songs. I feel so alone in my hate for it. I'm certain the Icelandic sheep will vote for it like crazy tomorrow. So very predictable. I have no idea who will win. I put France in my office pool although I'm not crazy about the song. I do like the songs from Sweden, Germany, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the UK. I loved Jedward in the 2nd semi final. I don't think the song is strong enough to win but they certainly make up for it with their performance so who knows! As for the Icelandic entry, I have no clue how we made it to the final. It is a mystery.

If there wasn't the jury vote I'd say Jedward will win but with "only" 50 % of the points coming from the audience I think they'll get into the top 5. I'm sure though those two boys will celebrate every point as if they've won! ;-) My favourites beside Ireland are Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, UK, Russia (what? He's so pretty!) and Austria.

Yes, the Russian singer is so pretty. None of the songs that I have heard so far have grabbed me at all this year.

We were happy that Moldova made it through, although I know they don't stand a chance from here on out. There were a couple of songs Thursday that my boyfriend and I kept turning to each other saying, "I feel like I know this song." So yeah, not a lot of originality in the songs this year.

I think you should be able to watch the show on the official website or here: www.eurovision.tv/esctv/main?program=24953. I wish I knew how to watch the UK broadcast or any other broadcast with English speaking commentators because this year's Icelandic commentator is really bad. The one we had before her was deliciously snarky.
