I'm happy with the result because Serbia's song was one of my favorites, but a lot of my other favorites did poorly.
I wonder what Rose thinks of the results, if she's heard them. The traditional Irish (and thus, most fae) song in last place!

I don't understand the appeal of the Serbian entry at all. My favorites were Greece, Sweden, Russia and for the sheer silliness, France.
And Solly79, I agree with you on this:
And that backstage host? I immediately thought of Rose when I saw her outside with her pink puffy jacket to match her "Sparklye, Femississippi Princessye" get up.

I'm also happy with the result! Serbia might not have been my favorite but I liked it. Also very happy about Greece 7th place. It will shut up a lot of people here - in typical Greek style various knowitall predicted last place for Sarbel. But not only did he made it into the final for next year, he even got a better place then SuperstarVissi last year. *evillaughter* And Solly79, I agree with you on this: I blame the choreography for that. IMO it was really not good and don't let me start on the clothes they made the poor boy wear!

Ok, it's the morning after here in Germany and frustration level is extremly high, I'm telling you. Thank God, nobody is taking it out on Roger, most people agree that his performance was really good and he had one of the best voices. On the radio they're discussing what to do next year. Most people suggest not going anymore (nah), others suggest limiting the number of eastern European countries ( ), then again people want to send the trashiest entry possible to mock all the others and score high points from everyone (much like we did 5-7 years ago, placing much better than now). Personally, I think we should send something like this again. That song would do great even now, it has all the right ingredients. And this was our song in Israel (1999), sung in English, German, Turkish and Hebrew (!) by a German-Turkish band. I don't think we've done that well (3rd place) since then. Ah well, the show was fun, and the aftermath is the same every year. I'm already looking forward to next year! ETA: my dear Brits, you know I love you very much but that song this year was just painful. Awful. And how cruel, no points for Ireland from the UK!!! I felt sorry for that Irish singer. She was cute. Did all the contestans this year attend the same workshop where they were told to wave their hands over their heads? Even Roger did it but Ireland clearly took that part very seriously.

I wonder what Rose thinks of the results, if she's heard them. The traditional Irish (and thus, most fae) song in last place! Well, you know that the ex-USSR and ex-Yugoslav voting blocs are full of tall, blonde, tanned Britneys, right? They were obviously jus' jellus of the singer's exquisite beauty and talent . The Irish song was dire, though --my mum's Scots-Irish (born in Glasgow), and likes a lot of trad music, and even she was cringing and laughing at it! Rose has got to be the Irish contestant next year --she couldn't do much worse than that. I'm happy that Latvia didn't win (didn't even come close, heh ;D ) but I found Serbia pretty boring. And what was with all the 70s air hostesses groping and restraining the singer? It was amazing how well the other, worse, Balkan/Central Asian ballads did --B&H and Armenia sounded like 1985 San Remo songs, and was it just me, or was the Armenian guy's tree draped in toilet paper? Verka was fun, but the performance was a bit flat. I actually thought the UK outshone it --they should have been top 10, as should Sweden. I loved them, but looking at various blogs, etc, I seem to be the only one who rated The Ark's performance. Spain were suprisingly good as well. solly79, commiserations from Australia! I'd been tipping Germany as a dark horse for ages, and thought the performance was great. Oops. IMO, Turkey had a much better draw than Greece, and even though the choreography and costumes were horrible, Kenan was a much more confident and natural performer --the Greek guy reminded me a bit of Mr Bean.

The exact same discussion has bene in Sweden. we had excellent odds for winning pre contest, but then totally failed and finished at no 18, with one of our best rock bands we have in Sweden. but nobody blamed them. People think we should split our country into the 120 communities we curremtly have. That way we will have 120 new "former sweden" countries and we can all buddy-vote for eachother. We should apparently also send comedians who perform the wackiest stuff. Everyone agrees that Sweden will never win again if we try to send good acts down there.

I'm in a complete ESC frenzy with the contest taking place in Germany after almost 20 years. I flove Eurovision It's like the Olympics, only for horribly catchy (and sometimes just plain horrible) songs and wacky performers from all over Europe. Already qualified for the final on Saturday are the five countries who finance the whole thing: Germany, Spain, UK, France and Italy. Last night the first semi final took place where a few of the so-called favourites and usual suspects didn't make it: Norway (who WON two years ago) and Turkey I didn't even like Turkey's entry all that much but it's just so weird that Turkey won't take part. And Norway's song should have been there, it's pure ESC cheese! Countries that qualified last night: Azerbaijan Finland Georgia Greece Hungary Iceland Lithuania Russia Serbia Switzerland And tomorrow: Ireland's entry JEDWARD!!! ;D God, I hope they qualify. Germany gets to vote in the second semi final and I may throw a call or two towards them. Contestants in tomorrow's second semi final: Austria Belarus Belgium Bosnia & Herzegovina Bulgaria Cyprus Denmark Estonia F.Y.R. Macedonia Ireland Israel Latvia Moldova Romania Slovakia Slovenia Sweden The Netherlands Ukraine I also think that Azerbaijan is a favourite. Russia and Serbia will get many points no matter what they send since the block voting will still be in full swing even with the new jury votes they now include. Russia's singer cracked me up last night when he didn't want to leave the stage and kept shouting into the audience. Here's the official website in English: Eurovision Song Contest 2011
