Any other geo-nerds excited for this series, airing on Discovery in March and April? It took five years to film, and looks really amazing!

I cannot wait for this! My only regret is that I don't have a HD television to watch it on.

So, nu? Anyone watch?
I thought it was amazing. I got pretty tired of the CONSTANT COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTIONS (ahem), but other than that, I was pretty blown away. The deep ocean stuff really made me feel nervous and abyss-y (new word?).

I just got HD yesterday. Oh yeah, I'm watchin' the hell out of this. The only thing that annoys me is the commercial for it. "Oprah Winfrey says everyone should watch this." Um, thanks, O.

Oh, thank YOU! We've been watching, too, and when that came up, we turned to each other and said "who gives a f#ck what SHE wants?" lol. Sigourney Weaver's a really good narrator, but a few of the the lines they've given her are so dumb that we were calling her Captain Obvious---in an affectionate way, mind you. Cuz we love her. And know that she could still kick our butts with her non-aging self. Some of the shots were really impressive. Especially the snow leopard. Personally, I'd never make it as a wildlife documentarian, though, as I'd have had to stop everything and chase that baby elephant back to its mama. Heartbreaking. The little male bird's mating dance/ballet was hilarious.

I love Sigourney but I thought she wasn't nearly as good as Richard Attenborough, the original narrator of this series. I guess Discovery decided that the Yanks would have a hard time understanding him so they replaced him with Ripley. Fortunately, the DVD set that comes out next month will be the Attenborough version (unless you buy it from the Discovery website).

Loved it so far. Favorites are the sharks completely out of the water to get the seals. The snow lepeords chasing the goat down the mountain, the elephants splashing in the water. All the deep ocean stuff. Just about everything really.
The only parts I didn't like was when Sighorney Weaver pointed out every five seconds that this was the first time so-and-so was filmed or that because of new technology blah blah blah. That wasn't necessary. And none of the prey got away. At least show one, people. Most depressing was the baby elephant getting seperated in the sand/dust storm. The view of him going the wrong way...I swear, I had tears in my eyes.

So, they started with Attenborough and then changed their minds?? Maybe he got ill? He's pretty advanced in years, right? Being an American, I rather doubt difficulty in understanding a British accent would be a problem, unless it was someone like David Beckham. ;D I second the annoyance with telling us too often just how ground-breaking and difficult this project was. Okay. We got that. Maybe that was the makers' way of saying "this damn thing cost a fortune to make and that's why approximately 67% of each episode hour will be taken up by commercials." Anyhow, it seemed like it. Their commerical game was ridiculous, yo.

Nope, he did the complete narration (and the BBC version is longer than the U.S. version). I suspect the U.S. brass didn't like hearing the British pronounciation of "zebra" and things like that.

Ok, now I'm curious. What IS the British pronounciation of zebra?
