I loved S5 of Angel, I thought it was the best stuff they'd ever done. Which I probably already said earlier in the thread. But I just finished watching everything 1-5 late last month, and S5 was really, really strong. I loved the Cordelia and Angel thing, because I thought they had a great adult friendship and relationship. Ah well ... it's not like it ever went anywhere. Better Cordelia than Nina, though. I've got a friend who always rags on the puppet-ation of Angel, but that's because he's never seen it and how well it was done as a story. I loved that about Angel, because the rules could be bent and normally the bending of rules made for greater and more emotional storylines. One of my favouritest moments ever was Spike's de-handing in Damaged, because they could deliver such a shocking moment, AND take it back, and it was perfectly canon.

YES~! The Mother Freaking Teresa-ing of Cordelia made me want to vomit. I didn't mind making her part demon, but that storyline was ridiculous. Especially since Angel knew better - he couldn't have a happy! Worst part of the series, along with Connor.
Other than that, in the end, I thought it was a better show than Buffy. Season 5 kicked Buffy's ass in both the latter part of Season 6 and 7.

I thought S5 was far better than mid S3 -S4. I love Spike and thought he was a great addition. Cordelia - her character was so ruined that I was glad she was gone. The only thing I hated about S5 was the end when everyone went on the stupid suicide mission and Angel killed Lindsey while allowing Harmony to go with a job recommendation.

I also agree that as a whole, it was a better show than Buffy. I own all ATS, and only seasons 1-3 of Buffy. I've watched all of ATS on DVD at least once, while I don't think I've cracked the Buffy DVDS since I bought/was given them. It had better characters and plotting and overall everything improved as it went along. I actually liked Fred and I was prepared to hate Conner but I was surprised at how well that storyline went.
Also, Angel broke the cardinal rule of tv: the quality of any show goes in the toliet immediatly after a main character has a child. Now THAT'S impressive!

I was just happy they finally brought Lindsey back. (So hot.)
Clearly, I preferred the snarkier Cordelia. ;D <---------

I loved when they brought back Queen C in S5 for the 100th episode ("You're Welcome"). Instead of the saintly pod person Cordy became at the end of her regular tenure on the show, she was back to her snarky self, while still getting Angel back on track to fight the good fight.
Plus, she wisely reverted to her original hair color. I despised the blonde hair on her.

You know, I always thought Angel's "perfect moment of happiness" was just doing it with Buffy, not having the sex with someone else. That's why it made me mad when he wasn't able to have sex with anyone else. Whores. We could have seen lots of shirtless DB!
I'm watching Smile Time right now and... Shut up, Fred. Hatechu!
I was so sad when they brought Cordelia back for the 100th episode. I missed THAT Cordelia so much!
By the time they added Spike to the show, I was so very sick of him that I wanted someone, anyone, to stake him. Really. I felt like he took a lot of time away from DB, too. This ain't your show, Marsters!

That what I liked about Smile Time, bitca! Wesley's speech to Angel telling him the same thing. That and the fact that it was a funny hour.

I couldn't agree more. When BTVS ended that should have also been the end of Spike. I loved me some Spike in seasons 2-5 of Buffy. But grew tired of him for the rest of his run on the show. I think they did to him the same damn thing they did to Cordy, they went too far turning him into a good guy. Not to mention that Angel was in LA doing his own thing. He wasn't thinking about Spike's annoying ass.
Spike was much more fascinating when he was a bad guy. I loved that he was bad, but had his moments where for selfish reasons he would do something good. It made him unpredictable. I liked that he genuinely seemed to adore Drusilla. I will never forgive the writers for what they did to that relationshup. Spike/Dru was so much more interesting then Spike/Buffy.
That's one reason why overall Angel remains the most fascinating character for me. He was a good guy. But he still had all this darkness in him. They didn't turn him into some wisecracking asshole who talked too much. Even though he was good he never forget that he had ALOT to atone for. That's why he was so broody.

That what I liked about Smile Time, bitca! Wesley's speech to Angel telling him the same thing. I realized he was saying that right after I typed that. I m smrt! At least I know my subconscious is working, right? But, it's true. That was always so ridiculous of the writers. Ha. Lorne! "Is there a Gepetto in the house?!" Exactly, kathy1977! Took the words right outta my mouth!
