Does this finale kill the sale of re-runs like the finale of St. Elsewhere did? I can't believe they spent all these seasons getting us to meet the mother and then she's dead. Fuck that. You know the creators thought they were being all edgy and cool. Why can't sitcoms just be fun and light-hearted anymore?

I WAS RIGHT! And yuck. They killed off the only character that I liked at the end - the mother. I will admit that this was the most entertaining HIMYM that I have seen in years but what a strange last season - they spent it all on the wedding for a marriage that lasted three years. And the mother died. They were big fat liars because they explicitly said that the mother would not die. Yes, I think that's one of the things I'm most upset about now was how it was very similar to "Lost" in how most fans had guessed the ending, but the producers swore the ending was totally going to be something different and that fans were insane, and then it turned out the fans were right. I understand they don't want to give away anything, but there has to be some kind of way to do that without lying to fans and insulting them. Of course, I'm also upset that they could have just ended it at the umbrella scene, and it would have been an okay finale, but then they had Ted and Robin getting together which I really hope wasn't going to happen. At one time, I would have been happy with them getting together because I never liked Robin and Barney together, but after spending so much time building the Robin/Barney relationship up and making it clear time and again that Robin wasn't into Ted, the way he was into her, it was like the show was a total waste of time to watch because evidently those episodes didn't mean much and were just filler so the producers could make more money.

Thank you, Bitca. Somehow, I missed the ep where Ted fought the goat. I spent a lot of time waiting for something I just missed.
I admit I am disappointed that Ted and Robin end up together. I don't HATE it...just disappointed.
Barney and his daughter was lovely, but I must say, I got more choked up this afternoon while catching up on "The Blacklist", and Red kills the adoptive father.
When does Alyson's new show start?

I don't watch the show, but did catch the finale. I wonder if they didn't film several different ending with the kids, at least that would make it more organic, (I'm thinking of the SNL Tom Brokaw "President Ford was eaten by wolves, od'd on crack cocaine, mauled by lions" bit). They'd have in the can differing reactions of the kids to different ways the show could go. I don't think anyone thought it would be around for what, eight years? However the gleeful, "Come on Dad, mom's been dead six years, go bang Aunt Robin, we know you wanna..." is just so crass, and not what kids do.

Not only that but I bet they've just killed off the spin-off "How I Met Your Dad" too. No one is going to watch anything associated with the epic fail that HIMYM turned out to be.

Sorry, I was never into this, but what did the mother die from? It sounds like a morbid ending to a comedy but again, I didn't watch it much.

There was just a 10 second shot in a hospital while Saget-Ted says, "...and when your mom got sick....", so they never really said.
ETA: I was actually disappointed that fake gray-haired Ted wasn't lip-synching to a Saget Voiceover.

I get the point that they were after … sometimes life is not a happy ending and just because Ted fell in love and found the mother of his children, that doesn't mean that they were going to live happily ever after. But it does seem as though they were trying to have their cake and eat it too and some parts were just really badly written. The kids cheering on Ted to date Robin - gross. I did like Barney finding the love of his life in his daughter. This pretty much sums up my thoughts.
