I find myself cleaning all the time after I watch this show; my mom thinks I'm a pig but my apartment is on the outside and I get more dust, which means I have to clean the window sils every day (I have floor to ceiling windows). She's the type of person who'd come to my apartment and clean the blades on the ceiling fan. Her place is spotless...mine? Well, it's tidy but only because I have to clean every other day to keep the dust out.

I think the one that pissed me off the most was the lazy-ass young couple -- the wife was quite overweight, with short, bleached hair, and had asthma. She had the gall to insist on "natural" cleaning products for her filthy, dusty house, and she was shown SMOKING. With asthma. Daft cow.

She was such a pig. I couldn't figure what the husband saw in her, not that he was a prize, either.

I'm having trouble just READING about this show anymore. Yeesh.

'Cuz I'm an overweight, judgmental daft cow with asthma. ;D I'm still confused by the "biological washing powder" thing. Is it for dishes or clothing? What would be a comparable U.S. brand?

What we call it in the US is an enzymatic washing/laundry powder (like Biz, I believe). There's also a product called washing soda which is a good natural cleaning alternative as well.

Washing soda rules! This evening's BBC episode: family with seven kids under 13 and a beautiful big old house. I've seen large, messy families before, but this was unreal: in the oven and behind kitchen appliances were pools of liquid grease and filth! Bugs infested food boxes and bags left open in the cupboard. Vegetable bins were filled with sprouting and slimy veggies. The toilet held (as Kim put it) "stale poopy-doops and peepee." (Ah, I love the British!) The father refused to do anything at all to help and the wife didn't seem to care. Actually, I think she was defeated. Someone mentioned earlier on this thread that a number of the people featured on "HCIYH?" seem depressed and I've noticed this too. I can't imagine how she managed to make any meals at all (a lot of pots and pans were sitting around with a thick coating of greasy slime, as was the oven!) or even do laundry. I think the kids must wear the same few items over and over: the laundry was piled high with clothes that I guessed were dirty, thrown on the floor. To top it off, the children had pet reptiles; I was glad Aggie lectured them about salmonella. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Thanks to this thread, I finally got with the program and set a DVR reminder for this show.
And thanks to this thread, I'll have to think about the nightmarish SLUG TRAILS under the bird lady's sofa for the rest of my life.

My sympathies, LittleEdieBeale.OH, the bird lady was the worst. Not only does she LOOK like a bird lady, but the house is so gross. So disgusting. Well, the show made me GAG. I'm starting to think that I've seen all the episodes because it comes on 3 times a day on BBC America and I record all of them to my DVR and watch them while I'm waiting for Mr. Grumpy to come home. I sometimes make the mistake of watching them while I'm having a snack and usually have to stop eating, or fast forward through some of the bits. I just cleaned the bejesus out of my bathroom. I think that Aggie and Kim would be proud.
