Couldn't find a topic on this one. It's been showing a lot lately on some channel that advertises Time Life CDs and it reminded me how much I loved this show. When it was first aired I was a kid, and it's definitely different watching it now.

Heh. I would be interested in watching it again. There was an episode where Wayne tortures Kevin because they are left home alone. It ends with a hamster being sucked up a vacuum. As a hamster lover, I found this tragic, but I also remember the episode being hella funny.

And some of the issues this show dealt with! I was about his age when the show started, and I remember being able to relate to stuff. Like, the one where Kevin rags on Winney (sp?) to the blonde girl, and the girl laughs, but turns around and tells everyone... or the one where the Mom loses the tax forms, and Kevin worries about it tearing the family apart...

I LOVED the Wonder Years. Well, actually, I loved Fred Savage. And I used to cry and cry when I realized I would never meet him in real life. And now my husband makes fun of me for my dorky, childhood crush.

Ahem.

My favourite episodes were actually those with Karen (the sister), and her giant house that she was renting with her boyfriend (Ross from Friends!). Karen just seemed like the epitome of cool.

There were so many heartbreaking scenes and I think I only realized this when I got older and re-watched some of the episodes. For example, some of the scenes between the father and Karen or between Kevin and the father. Come to think of it, a lot of Dan Lauria's scenes were kind of sad for some reason.


ETA: And with this post I've become (a) God. Damn, I didn't realize I was up to 999 posts, my 1000th post was supposed to be in Fishstick's thread. Ah well.

This show could tug at heartstrings like nothing else could. I remember the episode when Wayne's friend (dumb looking guy with brown hair) goes off to Vietnam. I think Wayne was turned down becuase of his flat feet and when the guy came back he wasn't right. Just depressed and freaked out and I remember it was just super sad to watch.

I also think the final episode was beautiful even though the entire cast hates it becuase they had no idea that it was the final ep when they shot it so they didn't get to say good-bye to everyone.

Oh, definitely. He was really fantastic on the show. It always seemed like he had a lot he wanted to say but couldn't find a way to say it, somehow. When the voiceover in the last episode said the character didn't live much longer, I was so sad.

Aww, I remember watching this show. I thought it was great, unfortunately my memory about this show is now rather hazy, since it hasn't been repeated over here since it ended. But yeah, it was definitely on my To-watch-list back then, as was Quantum Leap.

That one was always one of my favorites, and I was so excited when I saw it the other night flipping through channels! I think it's on the "Ion" channel, which might be like the new PAX-TV or whatever that Christian-y channel was called, but "Wonder Years" reruns are all right by me.

I was floored to find out that Winnie Cooper and Becky Slater were played by real-life sisters. As adults, there seems to be a little more of a resemblance.
