Eew, I hope they don't do that. It's a cool concept, but it's too much.

I thought I read somewhere that the seasons will move 5 years ahead, so season 2 will be 1965, season 3 will be 1970. If it makes it past season 1... Wow, yeah. That would be jarring. In the [blue]NYT[/blue], Matt Weiner said he wrote through the blackout of 1965 and might end it there, but it sounded like he was thinking out loud at the time and that wasn't a set plan. Now I'm curious! I'd be happiest if each season covered one year, or two at the most. Hey strawberrylover, our handsome former teacher Jon Hamm is going to be on Jimmy Kimmel next Wednesday, Aug 29, woot! ( [blue]full schedule[/blue])

Whoohoo!
On the one hand, yay! On the other hand, I'm a little afraid to tune in because I don't want anything he does on the show to burst my bubble. I prefer him in 1960s garb and hair style. Please Jon Hamm, please do not show up all disheveled and ruin the illusion.

I'm just loving this show. Its coolness and understated atmosphere, and not just its subject matter, make it completely different from anything on the networks.
And a (mostly) Joan-centric episode? Awesome. Christina Hendricks is amazing looking and just as talented.

Yeah, I liked that they had more Christina time in this episode. And hey, someone from AMC must be reading this thread because they made her have an affair with the white-haired boss, just like I wanted! Aw yeah. *dancing* Although, one complaint I had about this episode was there were waaaay too many booty calls. What was up with that? Don Draper is such a slut.

Did anyone in 1960 have a happy marriage, or at least not cheat on their spouse? Jesus. It's really bothering me.

Though we by no means lived the upper-middle-class life of the Drapers, I get tickled and a little bit freaked by the fact that in 1960, I was the age of Don's son.

Do you remember much of that era, bstewart? Was it anything like what's depicted in the show?

Well, I was four then, so my memories were mostly about scraping knees and mac-and-cheese and getting pissed about the new baby in the house (who turned out to be my brother). Any sociocultural awareness and acumen didn't really develop for another decade. I do remember the men being sharp dressers and powerful in their confidence and style (Brylcreem!), and my mom and her neighbour-girlfriends complaining about wearing girdles, too, but that's probably from a few years later than the events on the show, and I interpolated backwards.

I've been chatting with my 62-year-old mom about this show. I told her she might really enjoy it, since she recently got into The Sopranos, so she was going to check it out.
I called her this morning to tell her about the marathon on today. A few hours later she called me back and said, "Dammit, I haven't been able to do a thing today -- I'm absolutely addicted to this show! I haven't even showered yet!"
She remembers being a stay-at-home mom (in the '70s for her), and she says the tone really rings true for her. She can't stand Don Draper (I wonder if it's because he reminds her of my dad/her former husband). And she loves the gray-haired John Slattery (as do I), so she'll be hooked as long as he's on the show, I'm sure.
