Has anyone seen this show on HGTV? I have loved me some Ed Begley, Jr. for years. I hear he's very sweet in real life and I still find him nerdily adorable. I absolutely cannot bear his bitch of a wife, though. She acts like a stereotypical dumb blonde, while insinuating she just does it for the show, which I find not in the least amusing. It's been done before, way too often. Even more annoying to me is her constant complaining about and to Ed. Even if their real day-to-day life isn't like that, it still irritates me. It's not funny and not even well done. I think Ed needs a totally different wife, someone more like... ME. That said, the environmental topics the show discusses are very interesting. The Larry Hagman section last night was great: his utility bill is something like $13 a year, for a huge home. He not only manufactures all his own energy, but also generates enough extra to supply five low-income families with all theirs for free as well!

I love Ed's battles with Bill Nye the Science Guy. They crack me up.

I was so surprised at how much I liked the show. I was impressed with Larry Hagman and all he's doing to not only live off the grid, but to give back. His wife was very sweet, too.
I'm surprised that I like Ed, too. His wife is a shrew and I don't understand why he's married to such a bimbo, but he's intelligent and interesting and funny. Who knew?
I want solar panels, too.

I want solar panels, too. YESSS! Solar panels the size of Rhode Island! I also want Ed as my ur... consultant. Yeah, that's it... Some years back, word had it that he was Hollywood's best kept sex secret: VERY, as we used to say, "G.I.B." (good in bed.) A real gentleman, too. I guess I've always remembered that. He really does deserve better than that plastic-faced, bleached harpy. And this will date me, but does anyone remember him in the 80's version of "Cat People"? He played a wacky zookeeper whose arm was ripped off by a panther. I like that movie way more than I should... OT: Please note the new Gordon Ramsay quote in my sig, grumpygirl. Thank gawd he didn't say "doxxie penises."

I love Gordon.
On topic: I'm surprised that Ed is married to her. You'd think he would have found another person whose interested in the environment and who is smarter. I wonder if the folks from Six Feet Under knew about his secret and that's why they cast him as whatzhername's boyfriend?

My DH and I love this show! I don't mind his wife; I think she's a pretty good sport about most things, and I think she makes a good "straight guy" for him to play off of.

I love this show! Ed is so adorable in a Jimmy Stewart-y way, although I am a little concerned about the length of his shorts. I really respect his approach to conservation and his beliefs in being smarter about how we use our resources. Rachelle doesn't really bug me because I'm pretty sure she's "acting" most of the time. At least she isn't Kendra from the Girls Next Door.
I thought that the family who got a "green evaluation" on their home was really interesting. I was shocked at how much energy their house was using and it made me wonder how certain celebrities *coughbarbarastreisandcough* would do under such an evaluation.

I haven't seen most of the new eps except the ones with Larry Hagman and Jackson Browne, but I like Ed and enjoy the show. I'll try to catch a rerun of the home evaluation ep. That sounds fascinating.
I agree with pomegranate that Rachelle probably exaggerates her genuine frustration with some of Ed's decisions. I think lot of their arguments seem to have a playful undertone and they're probably playing to the cameras. They're both actors and they're probably more "on" (maybe even without trying) than typical John or Jane Doe reality show people. I think of it as more of an "educational" show than strictly a reality show.

I was shocked at how much energy their house was using and it made me wonder how certain celebrities *coughbarbarastreisandcough* would do under such an evaluation. Can you imagine if they ever did a green evaluation on that monstrosity that the Spellings built? They must use more electricity then some third-world countries. I figured that if Larry Hagman's yearly electric bill used to be $37,000, he was paying over $3,000 a MONTH in just electric. That's more than my mortgage and all utilities COMBINED and a sick amount of electric to be using. Every time one of those McMansions' A/C units kick on, just think of how much coal is being burned to fuel it. Coal that is polluting the air and that people are dying to dig out of the ground and that the earth is being scarred with strip mines to get to. </soapbox>
