The thing is, the show it's based on ( Blackpool) is amazing. Yes, the singing's weird and the plot is lame, but they sell it. But from what I've seen of this (couldn't see the episode), it looks so very very bad. But watch Blackpool! It's got David Tennant! I'm trying! But it's not on DVD, and BBC America isn't showing it. Though I have seen some clips on Youtube, and the "Boy With the Thorn in His Side" cracks me up.

After I read the reviews, I couldn't bring myself to watch. I liked what I saw of Viva Blackpool and had my doubts that it would translate to a US show - sounds like they totally screwed it up.

I saw a few preview clips of this show and I couldn't bring myself to watch it, despite my Hugh Jackman love. It just looked dead boring.
And I agree - this seems like a concept where you can't half-ass it, you have to go at it full force, guns a'blazing, so you can push it from "bad" to "so bad it's good" and make it campy fun. And from the clips I saw, it felt like everyone except Hugh was half-assing it.
And I can't believe that CBS of all networks was the one to pick it up. They don't seem to be very good at nurturing things that are campy and off-beat. ABC may have been able to make it candy-colored campy fun, but as it is this thing probably won't make it to Thanksgiving.

I bet $10 it won't make it to Halloween. Any takers?

I cannot believe I watched the second episode of this. But I guess if I didn't, I wouldn't know that the lead character, Ripley, started his business empire as the owner of a "Rip-Mart," that, if the advertising is to be believed, serves, "Really Cold Drinks." Wow! Really Cold Drinks! No wonder he had enough money to open up a billion-dollar casino—it was the "really" that set him apart from his competitors.
Also, William Mapother co-starred on this episode. He is a startlingly ugly man.
I'll be surprised if this show makes it until tomorrow.

I tried to watch last night, but it was so painfully boring/stupid that I had to turn it off. I'm all for high camp, but this wasn't really that fun, even.
Also, Mädchen Amick is way too young-looking to be the mother of those kids. It just doesn't read - she looks like she's the teenager's sister! Oh, Mädchen! Mädchen! You deserve so much more than this! You're so pretty and so talented and you still look like you're nineteen! [/Twin Peaks obsessed geek]

Well, you don't have to be surprised - Variety just announced that it has indeed been cancelled.
