Masterpiece Theatre Introduces Masterpiece Classic, Masterpiece Mystery! and Masterpiece Contemporary - The 37th Year of Masterpiece
Masterpiece Classic will feature signature period dramas. In summer, Masterpiece Mystery! will present the best British mysteries, and in fall, Masterpiece Contemporary will show dramas set in modern times.
Masterpiece Classic will be hosted by Gillian Anderson. The Masterpiece Mystery! and Masterpiece Contemporary hosts will be announced later.
Masterpice Classic Lineup:
"Persuasion" with Sally Hawkins as 27-year-old Anne Elliott who, eight years earlier, refused the proposal of a dashing captain (Rupert Penry-Jones) but never lost her yearning for him. Chance brings them together again. 8-9:30 p.m. Sunday.
"Northanger Abbey" stars Felicity Jones as Catherine Morland, who forms a close friendship with the son of an estate owner. Alas, their romance is cut short. 8-9:30 p.m. Jan. 20.
"Mansfield Park" has Billie Piper as Fanny Price, who goes to live with wealthy relatives and tries to navigate the relationships within the household. Her handsome cousin becomes her loyal confidant. 8-9:30 p.m. Jan. 27.
"Miss Austen Regrets" is a film biography of the author's lost loves: Those she rejected, those she teased and those who arrived too late to steal her heart. Starring are Olivia Williams, Greta Schacchi and Hugh Bonneville. 8-9:30 p.m. March 3.
"Pride & Prejudice" is a buffet of Austen characters stretching over six hours with wonderful performances by Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as the independent Elizabeth. Elizabeth is but one of five daughters of a gentleman whose accounts won't allow for huge dowries. How ever are they to marry them all off? 8-10 p.m. March 10, 17 and 24.
"Emma" has Kate Beckinsale as a matchmaker with no aspirations of her own match, but a desire to find the perfect man for her orphaned friend Harriet (Samantha Morton). 8-10 p.m. March 23.
"Sense and Sensibility" has Hattie Morahan and Charity Wakefield starring as the Dashwood sisters, who experience the highs and lows of love without so much as a kiss. 8-9:30 p.m. March 30 and April 6.
Then Masterpice Classic will air
"Cranford" a three-part miniseries starring Judi Dench
"My Boy Jack" starring Daniel Radcliffe and Kim Cattrall
A new adaptation of E.M. Forster's "A Room with a View" by Andrew Davies
