C'mon now, I can't have been the only nerd who watched this last night...
I have to admit I have this strange obsession with Revolutionary history so I was super psyched about this, and so far I haven't been disapointed. I can't get over how much the actors look like the real people -- I mean, you could probably slap a picture of David Morse on a dollar bill and no one would know the difference.
My favorite Founding Father is Alexander Hamilton (I told you I was a nerd!) but the fact that he's played by Rufus Sewell makes me apprehensive -- I know he and John Adams didn't like each other but I hope they don't make him a stereotypical bad guy like Sewell usually plays.
And on a shallow note: Justin Theroux is one fine-as-hell John Hancock. Mmhmm.

You're not alone. I love historical dramas and enjoyed this last night. Paul Giamatti does look remarkably Adams-ish, which really surprises me. Can't wait 'til they get to the scenes in Paris.

Of course I watched last night and I'll be watching it in a few minutes, especially since my favorite "old guy" actor Tom Wilkinson is playing Ben Franklin.
Who's the actor playing Thomas Jefferson?

Anything that has Laura Linney in it has to be good. I love her.
I've always wondered why there haven't been more TV/film projects set during this time period. The only major movie in recent times was that godawful Mel Gibson movie.

I think this is great so far! Nedsdag, Jefferson is being played by Stephen Dillane, who was in The Hours and King Arthur. He's pretty awesome as the quiet but witty TJ so far. Though it's hard to beat Tom Wilkinson's Ben Franklin. What perfect casting all around. My boyfriend's a history geek and says that it's been quite accurate, especially the little details of colonial living like the (ugg) pox innoculation.
Maddiemoo, I also totally love Hamilton (could have something to do with my 11th grade history teacher, who routinely referred to AH as "Our Hero" and Aaron Burr as "THAT BASTARD!") and am worried that he'll become the villain. Sewell is handsome in his own way, but not nearly as dashing as AH. We'll see how they decide to portray him.

OMG, I flooooooved this. At first, I was super pissed to come home from a three day trip to find my roommates had resubscribed to HBO for it, but then I watched, and it was greeeaaaat. I'm a little conflicted with the way they decided to portray Jefferson, (austere? reserved? shy?) but other than that, an excellent period epic.

This was excellent. I wish it was a long series like Rome and Deadwood. I love the all night debate on declaring independence. Was this the first American fillibuster? Such an exciting period.

My mom is taping it for me - she has HBO, I don't, but I did want to see it. I know the first time it didn't tape, but I believe she was trying again last night, so I'm hoping it worked so I can watch the first two parts this weekend before the next one.

It has been playing constantly at my house. Such great production values!! It made me realize that I don't like to see Paul Giamatti's face for that long, though. I think he's doing a really good job, but there is something so self-satisfied about him.
