So for people that like him because of his convictions, there are true through and through. My nun Great-Aunt went to the Oscars because of him. I think he went to the Oscars because of your great aunt! I drive past her old family home on my way to wok as it is only a few minutes away from my house.

That's awesome! And the short dark hair and glasses sounds about right for her (her hair isn't quite dark anymore). As for the no bullshit, I haven't met a nun who even had bullshit in her I come from a Roman Catholic family and we have three nuns in it. I guess back then you either got the calling or got married. We still spend every Thanksgiving at a convent in San Antonio with one of the sisters. It's sad that there are only two younger nuns in that convent, and they are probably in their forties. They are a dying breed. On topic- Sweet and Lowdown is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think Sean is completely sexy in it.

I know this should be a listing in Embarrassing Celebrity Crushes but when Sean wears a mustasche I find him eerily irresistable.

I still love Sean, but a rolling hunger strike is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. I share much of those political views, but this lame event encapsulates everything that is wrong with what I like to call the "Looney Left". If these are the political laymen representing left-wing views to the mass media, it leaves little wonder that the majority of people prefer to unquestionally accept our neo-con, economic rationalist world. Sigh. True. I think a rolling fast kind of defeats the purpose. People remember Bobby Sands because he was willing to die for his cause, whether or not they agree with it.

I think he cares alot about his causes, bu I also thinks he loves himself a wee bit too much for all that caring.

He needs to do a comedy fast or I'm going to give up trying to defend him anymore.

I went through this entire thread in hopes to find a link to the SNL Sean Penn Celebrity Roast. That was hilarious.

I think that the logic behind the rolling fast was that each day another celeb would be in the headlines and it would (hopefully) be a way to keep the spotlight on the subject.

My knee jerk reaction to this rolling fast idea is that Hollywood people are so consumed with themselves that they can't commit to a cause longer than 24 hours. My second is that all these vapid female stars consider fasting to be part of their lifestyle (whomever is the most underweight wins the spotlight it seems) so how could anyone possibly take them seriously?
In my opinion Mr. Penn, though his intentions were good, might not have thought this all the way through.

I recently read a piece on him in NYT magazine(I'm pretty sure it was). It was quite interesting. He talked about his relationship with his parents particularily his mother, quite the ballbuster. Chris(RIP) said the two of them were cut from the same cloth and made for some interesting battles at home.
