That's a whole lot of creased, leathery skin in one movie. My heart goes out to the film's cinematographer. Best of luck to him or her.
Can you imagine an actress aging as badly as either of those two and still getting lead roles in a movie? Or, looking like that AND having a horrible reputation, but still getting cast. It would never happen.

Is he supposed to be charming or something? Because he is hideous looking and all the interviews I have seen, comes off like a humorless grump. And we all know he is an abusive asshole. I really do not get it.

I don't think I've ever seen an entire movie that featured Sean Penn in a major role--even his older ones in which he was supposedly more appealing--probably because he has always seemed awful in every way. I think Sean Penn is so very good in Dead Man Walking. It's a near-perfect performance that I can watch again and again, although, admittedly I can only watch it every 5-6 years because it's too emotionally taxing.

He's excellent in DMW for sure, but one of my favorite films ever, is At Close Range. He and Christopher Walken really blew me away. I don't know why that movie never got more accolades. And, he actually looked kind of attractive for him, in a Popeye with bleached hair kind of way.

I think he's an astonishingly talented and versatile actor. His Harvey Milk broke my heart, and I've admired his work in every film I've seen of his, especially in Milk, Mystic River, and Dead Man Walking. Having said that...to tap into such a range of human behavior, you have to possess a pretty deep well of emotion and access to the darker aspects of your creativity. I think someone who is as violent as he has shown he can be probably has some pretty significant personal demons that he can't always control. All of that, plus the wealth and privilege and adulation he's enjoyed for years, could combine to make a pretty nasty person. Now, I'm sure it's easy for him to turn on the charm and charisma when he wants to - who wouldn't be a little moved by flowers and all the attention? - and if a woman chooses not to think about his past, or is deluded enough to think "I'm the one who can change him!", she can fall for him hook, line and sinker. Maybe that's why Madge still isn't really over him. Has Charlize ever spoken about the end of her relationship with Sean?

I keep thinking Sean Penn is going to settle into his face, since I first saw him in 1982 (Fast Times....)
I think its his funny little mouth that lets him down.
I always assumed he got his start because of his dad.

When I think of him, I think of Chris Penn, then I think of him dancing in Footloose, then I am sad.

Dredging up his thread because he's written a book. I read an excerpt on twitter. Maybe I'm getting dumber as I age, but it was a horribly written and terribly confusing paragraph.
He's also said some douchey things about Robin Wright and the #MeToo movement, but I'm not even going to address it. Unlike Matt Damon, who seems at least capable of growth, Sean Penn is a lost cause and I don't have the energy to scream about his willful ignorance.
