I say we challange Dwan on who has the cheesiest Christmas album/CD. We have a copy of Paul & Paula's Holiday for Teens. This is the couple that sang that "Hey, hey Paula I want to marry you." "Hey, hey Paul iwant to marry you too." oldie, so you know it's good. My hubby has a Chet Atkins christmas album somewhere, I need to spin it to see how bad it is.
Heard that Bing Crosby Hawiian Christmas tune today, man, that really grated for some reason. His voice can be so odd.

Don't mess with me, pathtaken. Not only do I own Christmas with the von Trapp children, Christmas with the Brady Bunch, AND the N*Sync Christmas album, I also just ordered Christmas on the Ponderosa featuring the entire cast of Bonanza. *cracks knuckles*
I will admit, I am SO jellus of Paul & Paula! I make you good price...? ;D
I should have my Christmas Music Blather up in a day or so. Y'all're inspirational!

Oh no, have I incurred the wrath of Dwan?
Please don't beat me, I was just funning.
I'll start haunting my local thrift stores for a gift of appeasement.

Hey Dwan, do you have the V.A. collection A T.V. Family Christmas? All original teevee cast members, warbling their favorite Christmas tunes. The Cartwrights are on there, as are the original Dukes of Hazard, the Make Room for Daddy cast, and of course, the Bradys. Whee!
Hands-down best Christmas song to play as an answering-machine greeting (or to drive out retail customers at closing): Joseph Spence's cover of "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town."

I looked, and sorry if I missed it... but four pages of Christmas music and no one's mentioned Mannheim Steamroller?? I am amazed. Their rendition(s) of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman" are probably my favorite carol of all time. We saw them live last week for the first time in 15 years. It was AWESOME! And I'm 26, probably a generation younger than most Steamroller fans, but that's okay. I'm a nerd and proud of it.
I also own and enjoy the Home Alone 2 soundtrack, the Grinch soundtrack, and lots of Bing.

Wizards In Winter has become my new favorite Xmas music. Gots to love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra! ( The link is to the movie of the now famous Christmas House.)

I did it, all 'cos of you guys... I posted my Christmas Music Blather at my website. Thanks, y'all! Brilliant blather, Dwan! Perfect lunchtime reading...however your "worst" list has been playing in my head for the past half hour and I really want to stick a fork in my ear. You should have put a warning label on your site. "Upsot"??!?!?!

OK, I'm breaking the "you must read the last 15 pages before you post" rule, so maybe this has been mentioned previously: the Bing Crosby / David Bowie duet? My favorite Christmas song evuh! It was back in 1977 and Bing was taping his Christmas special in London. He wanted a young star on the show, to pull in the kids, and he'd never heard of David Bowie (!) but had him drop by after Bowie was suggested. They were going to duet on "The Little Drummer Boy" and changed it to Bing singing that while Bowie sang "Peace On Earth" (is it still considered a duet if they're singing different songs?) I actually watched that TV show, nothing better to do, I guess, or maybe it aired soon after BIng died so I tuned in. Seeing Bowie, who was at that time the personification of cool to me, sit down to sing with Bing was surreal...but it worked, it was magical.
My next favorite is a song I only heard part of, one time, on the car radio. It sounded like David Byrne singing. The only part I remember went:
"Joseph came to Mary with his hat in his hand, He said I'm sorry if I (something something) with another man. Mary said, what if I did, you'd have nothing to say, Besides, guess what, I felt the baby kick today..."
Anyone know who/what/where on that one?

Hey!
I just borrowed "Barenaked for the Holidays"
Barenaked Ladies is such a talented band, even if they are goofballs a lot of the time.
Best, of course is the song with Sarah MacLachlan...gorgeous!
(Not to mention "Elf's Lament" with Michael Buble...too funny)
And the Happy Birthday to Jesus...too sweet.
Yeah, and my favorite version of "O Holy Night" is by Tracy Chapman. No glory notes, nope. Just wonderful. I haven't heard it yet this year, but can't wait.
And, being mostly Italian, we are ALL about "Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey" in my family.
As for Mr. Wolf...the Snoopy Theme is one of his favorite Christmas songs. I even have a bunch of Christmas MIDIs with that as one of them (yes, it counts!...I was actually going to give out mini CDs with the MIDIs as Christmas presents this year, but I thought I might get death threats for it. I am very much all about the Christmas spirit!)
