Lazy objectification at its best. No concept, no story. Just a couple of straight women with blank faces pretending to be hot for each other. Their demeanor says "I'd like to have sex, but..eh, it's such a hassle." NOT sexy!

Their demeanor says "I'd like to have sex, but..eh, it's such a hassle." NOT sexy! The first (and last) time I saw the clip, I was thinking how progressive. In the first 20-30 seconds, the song hadn't dropped any pronouns, and Rihanna and Shakira seemed to have the hots for each other. Maybe, just maybe, the song was purposely vague so everyone could identify with it. Then the he/him/his kicked in, the cigars came out, and finally the dead-eyed, half-hearted, passionless groping. What a waste.

Yikes. I know it is supposed to be sexy, and they are both very beautiful women, but wow, that is a dumb video. Just kind of embarrassing and silly. I'm sure there are folks that will disagree, but yick.

Youtube will ban musicians from its siteThis seems kind of hypocritical, since there are many (thousands, I would imagine) videos of complete CD's of many popular musicians on youtube that have been there for a very long time. Search for just about any artist, and you can find many unauthorized videos (which is basically just the artist CD set to a slide show). Youtube doesn't seem to do to much about this. But then again, the big ISP's don't seem to do to much about movie piracy or software piracy. I suspect this is more of a play for attention on Youtube's part. I would imagine no one is paying attention to their music service. I guess I just answered my own question.

And the cliche continues: Fifth Harmony 2013Fifth Harmony 2014In one year they went from fun and attractive to sexy temptresses...cause, you know, that's what girls have gotta do to be successful. Don't complain. It's just how (they want you to believe) the world works.

Wow that second Fifth Harmony is like some wretched Destiny's Child nightmare. STOP TRYING TO BE BEYONCE, LADIES. IT'S NOT WORKING.

Seriously. Only Beyonce can do Beyonce dance moves without looking stupid and desperate. This is her primary talent.

Drake -- Hold On I thought this was stupid when I first saw it last year, and after seeing it again last night, I still can't get over how fucking stupid it is! At the start, it's a laughable attempt at imitating and glorifying gangster culture (that's gangst er not gangst a). Then there's the damsel in distress who is oh so conveniently kidnapped while in lingerie. But the absolute dumbest is the second half starting at minute mark 4:30 when our hero kills the lights, ensuring that no one, including HIM, will be able to see very well when they randomly shoot their machine guns. Then Drake shoots the betrayer of the group in the head as he is oh so conveniently looking up and in another direction all duuuhhhhh it's dark now duuuhhhhh. Then Drake makes this "I'm a tough guy" face which totally cracks me up. The damsel in distress is apparently being held in an area that is used for paintball games during the day and serves as a gangster hideout by night. Drake and the crew proceed to shoot and shoot and shoot without regard for what or who they're shooting at. The damsel in distress could have easily been killed by a stray bullet. Brilliant plan Drake! We finish with a nice shot of the damsel's ass as she grasps at her hero. So. STUPID!!!

So somehow, downloading some running music playlists on Spotify, I ended up with this song and Blurred Lines in my collection at the same time and was struck about the whole "you're a good girl w/a secret bad girl I only get to see..." trope that both perpetuate. In this one it even includes the line "I know exactly who you should be". This video doesn't help improve my opinion of Drake at all. Also, can we discus Avicii's Wake Me U video? Because I'm confused by it. So your town hates you because you're pretty, they're ugly and dressed like they're from the depression?

I really hate the way that video contrasts pretty and ugly. But the fact that it's meant to promote Ralph Lauren denim explains it. People with fashion sense are beautiful people who have fun and enjoy life, whereas people without fashion sense are ugly and perpetually depressed. It's like a metaphor of how people within the fashion industry see the rest of the world. The mystery is how these really-really-good-looking girls with awesome clothes found themselves amongst the riff raff. I guess we'll never know.
