I find it highly amusing that this thread seems to have attracted so many of us damn heathens.

The heathen that I am, I saw the title and said "eeewww". But yeah, I am not into the whole born again jeebus thing, and this kind of music tends to attract those* people, or vice versa - plus it just sounds awful and trite to me, lyrically. I liked the song that Jars of Clay had on the radio, but when I found out they were a "Christian Music" band, me no likey anymore. But, YMMV and I am obviously going to hell.
* really not trying to insult those people
eta: clarification, and a weak one at that

I recently heard a surprisingly good Christian band called Fireflight. I don't mind the noisy, Jeebus-punk stuff. It's the middle-of-the-road pop stuff that tends to really suck.

Yeah, there seems to be a growing trend along the kicking-ass-for-Jesus line. Muscular Christianity seems kind of "off" to me. Maybe I read a different bible - the one with loads of stuff about meekness and humility. Or maybe I just hate Stephen Baldwin. Still, I'll take Jeebus-punk (good phrase, BTW) over that anodyne, over-produced, straight-outta-1985 synth-pop stuff. However, given the choice between extended exposure to either of those two and, say, having root canal surgery performed through my nostrils, well...just show me where the dentist's chair is.

Born and raised Catholic I heard plenty of Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith. In fact, having gone to an all girl school I think it was a rule that at every pseudo-religious assembly or retreat we had to play Michael W. Smith's friends song "And a friend's a friend forever . . . " Gah.
I remember in college I really liked Jars of Clay until I found out they were Christian. Then I couldn't take it anymore.

Didn't Evanescence start out as a Christian band? Maybe they still are.

If I had a buck for every time we were subjected to that damn friends song in high school, I'd have...well, I'd get myself something nice, certainly.

Isn't P.O.D. sort of Christian? I thought their big hit "Alive" a few years back was about finding Jesus. Yup, born againYes, it seems they got in trouble with whoever's running Christian rock. from allmusic.com- Evanescence ran head first into controversy promoting Fallen. Originally, it was released in the Christian and secular markets; however, the band's use of profanity during an interview with Rolling Stone prompted its label, Wind-Up Records, to recall Fallen from Christian stores.

I think Amy Grant is considered less Christian music because of her divorce. Her new husband is country singer Vince Gill, who's done a fair bit of Christian music himself.

My mom made me go with my religious cousins to a concert once. We saw DC Talk. They were kind of like Color Me Badd, but loving the Jesus. Oh my.
And why did the heathens all come in here? I practically sprained a finger clicking on this link to see! That's just awesome.
ETA: Oh yeah, they had a big hit called "Jesus Freak" because they are all edgy and cool like that.
