As a garden-variety heathen reared in an agnostic household, the only Christian artists I’m aware of are Amy Grant and Faith + One. (Yes, I know the second one isn’t real.) That said, I still want the low-down on who’s down with Jesus in music.

Don't forget Stryper! ;D
Yeah, my atheist self isn't going to be much help in this thread. Wasn't Jars of Clay a Christian band?

I saw Mat Kearney on VH1 the other morning and liked the song a lot. I went on Google and found out he's all about the Christian music scene. My daughter found another one, Crystal Meyers, who sounds pretty good. She has a Kelly Clarkson kind of pop rock sound.

Does the Christian music industry still claim Amy Grant these days?

I remember an interview from back in the 80's with Amy Grant where she was describing the nasty letters she got from other Christians. She was so upset. She said something like, "Madonna can walk around wearing underwear, and I wear my shirt buttoned up to my chin, and I get all kinds of nasty letters about it!"

I was eight when the Eighties ended, so my knowledge of them is limited. The band Creed also had an album named Jars of Clay, but I think Scott Stapp and his frequent “Jesus posing” would be considered blasphemous.

Uh, Dave Matthews was raised as a Quaker and has written several religious-ish songs. Does that count?
I'm a heathen agnostic, so I'm really of little help in this thread.

I don't know about bands, but there are certain songs I like my very Catholic coworker loves Christian music:

I really don't know many Christian artists, but I love those commercials for the Songs 4 Life cd's or whatever they're called. The people they show in the audiences kind of freak me out, but if you see the commercial enough times you can start singing along with all the song clips. Good times.

I belonged to a Catholic youth group back in the day, and those kiddies were huge fans of Michael W. Smith. Used to make me want to rip my ears off, even then. But then, I've never been the world's best Catholic, so leave it to me to be the heathen in the bunch who rejected the magic that was MWS.
