No, I'm not talking about elevator music. I'm talking about Yacht Rock type stuff, the stuff that played on your dad's (or your own?) stereo back in the seventies. Obnoxious trivia: Boz Scaggs collaborated with the guys from Toto (before they became Toto) to record his Silk Degrees album.

I'd consider him more soul. But if you can listen to him on a yacht, then it works. ETA: I'll send him a fan letter asking that he grow out a beard, Loggins style. Then he'll be one smooth mutha.

Silk Degrees was a monster album back in the day, everybody owned a copy and I practically wore the grooves off mine. "What Can I Say" is my song. *searches for WCIS on iPod*

Bought the 8 Tracks. Ever since I first saw Yacht Rock, I have been obsessed. There is something so soothing about this music, like an audio valium. I'm going through a big Kenny Loggins phase at the moment, I can't get through the day without listening to Don't Fight It.

I think they wore karate gi's in the original video too. Awesome! I'm all about This is It (can't find the clip of the original, but this one's still pretty good). Every time it's on, I gotta sing it out loud. Talk about an anthem! One of my favorite blog entries about smooth music.Too funny. The rest of the blog's good too (not softsational, but still great stuff). ETA: I can't listen to Gino Vannelli without thinking of this sketch. Too damn funny.

SCTV was so ahead of their time with the sofsational parodies. I plan on relaxing this weekend by listening to some smooth music the way Air Supply intended, in my back yard, with a cold drink in my hand. The Kenny Loggins live album I just scored at Goodwill will do the trick.

I can't think of this genre without this exchange from The Simpsons:

Sergio Mendes...Bobby Caldwell....
Went to see Bobby Caldwell in concert back in like 1990. Was like 20 people there, he sang all of his hits. It was a great concert, I was in the front row and was flirting with the bass player. I wanted to be a groupie and hang out after, but my older sister was with me and she wasn't with it.
