This type of music takes me back to when I was a wee thing in the late 70s--makes me feel all warm & fuzzy. I don't think Chicago falls into "yacht rock", but Peter Cetera's voice has the same security blankie effect on me, 'cause my mom used to play their records all the time. I plan on relaxing this weekend by listening to some smooth music the way Air Supply intended, in my back yard, with a cold drink in my hand. The Kenny Loggins live album I just scored at Goodwill will do the trick. Kenny Loggins was the guest performer at the Hollywood Bowl's Fourth of July show a couple of years ago. At first we were like, "Ehh...Kenny Loggins?" I've gotta say, though, he put on a really good show. Enjoying some wine under the two stars of LA's night sky and singing along to "This Is It"...good times.

I think they wore karate gi's in the original video too. Awesome! I'm all about This is It (can't find the clip of the original, but this one's still pretty good). Every time it's on, I gotta sing it out loud. Talk about an anthem! One of my favorite blog entries about smooth music.Too funny. The rest of the blog's good too (not softsational, but still great stuff). ETA: I can't listen to Gino Vannelli without thinking of this sketch. Too damn funny. Hello. My name is Daisy Pusher, and I am a Yacht Music lover. [/12-step] I looked at the link to that blog and well....I will admit to owning CDs by Boz Scaggs, Loggins and Messina, Firefall, Little River Band, Seals and Crofts, and Dan Fogelberg. I'm a lonesome loooooooooser, I guess. I've actually seen Firefall in concert. And I actually have a 45 of "Don't Fight It" by Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry (I still have all my old albums and records, even if I don't have a turntable anymore). Pathetic but proud of it! edited for the last time to say that I generally think of myself of having fairly decent taste in music, even if it is a bit odd, but like proper stranger, this kind of mellow, bland music takes my back to me childhood, back when my parents were still married, and just generally gives me a nostalgiac shiver. I think of our old neighborhood and my dad's softball games and the Rocky Mountains before the population explosion and silly shit like that.

Eugene Levy is Gino Vannelli! And Rick Moranis WAS Michael McDonald. I can't think of this genre without this exchange from The Simpsons: ;D Ha! I remember that one. Hell to the yeah! And, slightly O/T... liveforthesun, I have a suspicion you might be my sister-in-law. I think it's the Steve Perry avatars.

Does Looking Glass's Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) count as Yacht Rock? Because I unabashedly love that song.

Would your sister-in-law throw her boyfriend off a building for a chance to go back in time to unzip Steve Perry's mom jeans? If the answer is yes, I'm her. On topic: Pablo Cruise is the most underated Yacht Rock band ever. When I finally find my place in the sun, I'm sure it will be in Marin county soaking in a redwood hot tub listening to Love Will Find A Way. (with Steve Perry, natch)

Last Christmas, I downloaded Same Auld Lang Syne from iTunes. I also downloaded Robbie Dupree's Steal Away. I remember when I was a little girl, my brothers and I had bedrooms opposite each other and they used to play that song a lot. I'd sit at the top of the stairs outside their door, trying to hear what they were talking about.
