I still can't get my head around the pronunciation. First I thought it was Yoo-Gin-Knee. Now I'm thinking it's Eu-Genny so that it rhymes with New Guinea.

I knew an eh-yoo-heh-knee-a, which was kind of cool.
I love Jane and Mary, too. I know they went through their own cycle of extreme overuse, but they're definitely not part of my peer group, so hearing them infrequently makes them so refreshing.

The Russian version is a lot prettier -- Evgenia. The English version sounds really grandmothery to me.

I confess I can never remember which woman is which. I know their names, I can recognize their parents, but I can't connect a name with a distinct face because the princesses are always pictured together.

I just read a book about Henry VIII and his wives and jfc it was impossible to keep track of all of the Henries and Margarets. There were way too many Elizabeths and Annes too. There are a very limited number of royally approved names; the more variety that can be maintained the better. One of my favorite mysteries says, when referring to the reign of Edward IV, "Can't you call them Ethelbert or Francisco or something?" while dealing with the plague of Edwards and Richards.

Beatrice has the large, bulgy eyes and Eugenie is the other one.

And Eugenie looks like a younger Andrew. (Not that she's not pretty, I just see a lot of him in her.)

Can't find the photos now but I've seen pics where young Eugenie and young Queen Mother are side by side and are very alike.
