I thought at first it was a tempest in a teapot, but Eugenie is getting a lot of heat over the price to taxpayers of her wedding. I think what pushed it over the edge is that she wants an open-top carriage ride just like Meghan and Harry (of "the full triangle"). That's where the bulk of the security costs lie. I don't think it's appropriate that Eugenie gets a carriage ride. She's not even a working royal and most people who have a vague awareness of who she is can't even tell her apart from her sister. She should arrive by car and leave by car and pause for photos on the steps, that's it. Supposedly, Prince Andrew is pushing hard for the wedding to be as big as possible. I think he wants to make Beatrice and Eugenie as high profile as possible so that there will be public pressure on Charles to continue supporting them once he takes over. And once again this disproves the fallacy that "If it weren't ok, then the Queen would be stepping in." The Queen should have put her foot down on this one from the beginning.

Ouch! LOL! Though, I agree. If Eugenie wants an open top carriage ride, let her or her dad pay for it.

Eugenie inviting 1,200 regular folks to Windsor to view her carriage ride is reminiscent of Harry and Meghan inviting regular people. But in Harry and Meghan's case, it was a generous move to allow people to witness in person an event that people all over the world were dying to see. In Eugenie's case, it's to create an audience for herself. Like everything the Yorks do, it's a tad tacky.

Yeah. The difference is that people LOVE Harry and were uber-curious about Meghan. I don't know if many people have the warm fuzzies about Eugenie. Also, her fiancé is very boring and doesn't add anything new to the (royal) table. He even makes Kate Cambridge seem exciting.

As an American, I have no dog in this fight.
If I did, I wouldn't be delighted that I'm going to be paying the bill for a millionaire's daughter to live out her fantasies at taxpayer's expense. It looks like security is going to run around 1.25 million pounds. The security for Zara's wedding cost around half a million pounds, and Eugenie is far more comparable in position to Zara than Harry.

I agree that Eugenie's wedding should be at the level of QEII's other grandchildren who are not in direct line for the throne.
The British politicians who are squawking over this are basically just saying that the outer branches of the family tree need to get trimmed at some point, and they are correct. Charles supposedly is pushing for the BRF to do this on their own and not let it get to the point where laws are being reexamined. That puts the whole family in danger.

The monarchy has been bloated for years. Long before William and Harry. There were cousins of the queen with little name recognition who were drafted into performing royal duties. Ridiculous.

According to Wikipedia, Brooksbank is a "brand ambassador of Casamigos Tequila and socialite"??!?? Let Clooney pay for the security, FFS. She's a royal with no responsibilities. Step off, Andrew.

I see no reason why the Queen's granddaughter and a blood princess shouldn't have the fancy wedding she wants. She's as useful as all the other ones who've gotten married. Plus, Andrew is the Queen's favorite son, why would she have a problem with his daughter having a royal-caliber wedding.
