I'm reminded of something I heard Julian Fellowes say about the old British aristocracy - they raised their children to live a very particular kind of lifestyle, but didn't give them the means to fund that lifestyle. Back in the day, that resulted in a lot of loveless marriages. In the current celebrity world, it results in a lot of talent-free kids doing anything they can to make money in the entertainment industry.
After growing up in "Beckingham Palace" it's not very appealing to go out and get a $50k per year regular job and go live in a tiny house in a downmarket suburb.

I swear Brooklyn and his fiancee's next thing will be to try for a reality show. Given the amount of time and energy they use promoting their relationship on social media, this seems like a no-brainer.

Sort of seems like so far David & Victoria are more than happy to fund the kids' lifestyles. Either that or Brooklyn's fiance's parents are funding him as he and Nicola currently have an $11 million mansion to sell. How much money do we think Brooklyn put toward the down payment?
Can't wait to see what Harper Beckham gets up to 6-7 years from now.

Reviving this thread because I discovered that Lily Mo Sheen, daughter of Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen (for whom I have a soft spot) is in a movie with Nic Cage and Pedro Pascal. Maybe she’s a great actor, but I sincerely doubt she got the part on her thespian skills alone.
I am so sick of celeb spawn. Seems all anyone needs these days is an IG account and a famous last name!

For the most part, I agree with you but then I was trying to think if there were any celeb spawns I really liked. And the only ones I could think of were Carrie Fisher and Jamie Lee Curtis (and to some degree, Melanie Griffith because I really love Working Girl). And that got me wondering if my mother felt the same way about the kids of celebs she watched back in the day 😝

I like Jeff Bridges. I think Beau might be OK. I like Martha Plimpton, Keifer Sutherland, Maya Rudolph, Tracee Ellis Ross, Mariska Hargitay, Laura Dern, Rashida Jones, Nic Cage (in his earlier days), Norah Jones, Alexander Skarsgard, Ben Stiller, Rob Reiner, Jane Fonda, and Dan Levy.
I cheated and looked at a list of famous celebrity offspring and there were some on there that made me roll my eyes, but most of them were tolerable.
It’s interesting how people select their stage names. Sone of these people are using their birth names, but Martha Plimpton (her mother’s name, also an actress) didn’t seem to play up her Carradine connections and Nic Cage does not go by his birth name of Coppola.

The music world has lots of children of too. In earlier, simpler times, I'm recalling lots of "family acts" - where the whole family was in on the act together - the Osmonds, the Jacksons, the Pointer Sisters, the Beach Boys, the Mandrell Sisters (more for their variety show), the Judds, the Carter Family just to name a few. These are a slightly different breed than Jakob Dylan being known as son of Bob or Dweezil, Moon Unit and Ahmet being known as kids of Frank Zappa. I think there is more of a curve to prove yourself in music than in acting. (see John Lennon's offspring). Michael Penn has pulled off being a son of, brother of, and husband of (Aimee Mann) to be a respected musician. I'll even throw in Juliette Lewis for that too.

I think Kate Hudson is an interesting example. She came on the scene with a bang in "Almost Famous" and then did a bunch of not-so-great to really bad movies. I just saw her in "Glass Onion" and when I tell you she leans hard into doing her mother's schtick, I am not exaggerating. It 100% works for the character, but I hope that's not going to be her thing going forward, as that would get old very quickly.

Boy do love Michael Penn's No Myth. Me too! Loved that song before I knew he was a member of the Penn family or married to Aimee Mann. And still don't know any other songs by him whatsoever. Jakob Dylan definitely got some added mystique from looking and sounding like his father, and I'm sure it opened doors. But ultimately, people don't want to listen to a song because the singer has a famous parent. The Wallflowers had a ton of Top 40 hits because the songs were catchy. And Jakob's solo work is good too.
