I took a look at the track listings/writing credits for this album compared to her last two, and as much as it pains me to say this, it appears that Dr. Luke played a crucial role in Katy Perry's success. I really like Katy Perry the person as well as her quirky/obnoxious persona, but when it comes to musical talent, I'm inclined to believe there's no there-there.

Yes, I definitely saw the pics and did not bother with the article. Yikes. I think with Taylor, they broke up because there weren't big enough rooms to fit both their egos.

Her willingness to turn a blind eye to the situation with Kesha/Luke (I have a hard time believing she wouldn't have been aware given how closely they worked together for years) is another big reason I side-eye her. Idk Taylor does fit the "mean girl" mold, but I don't think Katy's necessarily above throwing people under the bus if it means furthering her own career.

Katy Perry's therapy session. I believe this was essentially genuine, but every time she mentioned a song on her new album I was reminded that at the end of the day this was a promotional piece.

I gave it a chance, even though the whole idea of doing a public therapy session is already way too suspect.

I'm 15 minutes in and it is ringing a lot of phony bells for me. A lot of it seems aimed directly at her teenage fans. They know her rags to riches story already, and now she's trying to add dark glamour and drama to the story for them to draw them in even further.

"That's the whole point of this whole thing is that if people can see that I'm just like them, than they can dream just as big!" [/wipes tears]

ETA: The real "Katheryn" is a massive dork. She's a nerd and a goofball more than a pinup!

How many female celebrities peddle that bullshit to seem relatable? So manipulative.

I know she and Budget Dr. Drew watched plenty of episodes of Celebrity Rehab because they loved that leitmotif of "I have a stage name, therefore I left behind the real me and anyone who loves me will call me by my real name as if I'm two different people."

I watched parts of the VMAs last night with Katy Perry hosting, and she was AWFUL! Now, it's not entirely her fault since she can only work with what the writers give her. But therein lies her weakness. All of these years she's relied heavily on talented people making her look good. After years of being a semi-fan I have no doubt that she's a nice and charming person IRL and wish her the best, but as an entertainer she's been exposed as an empty shell. Without the right producers and writers, she's got nothing to offer. At this point, I think her best option career wise would be to go the way of Jessica Simpson and start shilling products on QVC.
